First 5 Games

Recommended Posts

Hard to predict a decent haul with our shallow squad facing 4 games in the opening 10 days. We're not ready for that.

Baring injury no reason with shallow squad can't manage for first few weeks of season. If we had massive strength in depth and won opening games would you want side chopped and changed each game?

Main thing is getting takeover sorted then things will happen but no point signing benchwarmers if better players will come in late in august

So with a squad of 20; potentially minus Buxton, Lavery, Westwood (all knee), Lee & Semedo (both groin). Hutch has his ongoing knee issue and Zayatte's just back after 6-8 months out and needed an injection pre-season. No probs? That squad can cope with 4 games in 10 days? We still have friendlies yet to be played. Our situation might ease slightly - or worsen.

Lavery played against Donny have already injured his knee against Bury, pre-Slovenia. Lee played with a tight groin at Donny also. We're risking players.

It's traditionally an exciting time with fans looking forward to the new season with hope and optimism. Either on the back of a promotion, or following a strong finish to the season. Bolstered by potentially exciting new signings, we hope to start the campaign with a bang, believing, this could be our year. That's how it should be for football fans, sadly none of those things apply to us. We are in total limbo, with our current owners not prepared to invest, and potential new owners still far enough away from a deal, that they too, won't invest So with no new players, on the back of a dismal end to the season, and seemingly, the sole ambition of hanging in there until help arrives, why would we be enthusiastic?

Precisely

Dunno, maybe because the season is longer than 5 games.....?

What points return would everyone realistically be happy with?

Brighton 1 point

Derby 1 point

Milwall 3 points

Middlesborough 1 point

Forest 1 point

7 would be a great return imo with the depth of the squad id take 5 at present...

Unbeaten in the first 5 would be a minor miracle.  However, fancy us at Brighton with their new set up and first day of the season (3pts).  Have nothing to lose against Derby and could just come through with the momentum from a Brighton win ( 3pts). Then let's make it three on the bounce with a win over Milwall ( 3pts) - and top of the table. A Yorkshire draw v Middlesborough ( 1pt) and defeat against Forest (0pts).

Return 10pts!
