I hate the football team from that city and their fans as much as any fellow Wednesday fan but that doesn't mean I have to wipe from history that that city Is growing as a successful city commercially and financially and even culturally, their council promotes and sells their city and seems to be proud of it where Sheffield city council just plods along looking to get rid of amenities like airports and sports stadiums, Its sad but true.

Its only a matter of time before their new arena overshadows Sheffield arena and takes away big names, Sheffield as a city needs to get some fresh new faces In and sell and promote the place like their bigger brothers up the M1 at Leeds do.

Sheffield's seen as dull, rundown and a grey city by most outsiders, I couldn't care less about Sheffield or Leeds I follow Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and aint got any care or allegiance to the city Itself, or any other place, everywheres the same IMO its not the places that run places down its a minority of the inhabitants and most of all the government both local and national.

right no take your soap box home numbnuts

Sorry mate, disagree totally with that one, I talk to people who come in and out of this City every day, some who've just been here hours/days and some like students who come from other parts of the UK and have been here Months/Years, the amount of them who fall in love with it and praise it is unbelievable and it's true, it's a great City and a very unique one in terms that part of it lies in the Peak district.

I'll admit that Leeds is the financial Hub though, It has things going for it that perhaps Sheffield lacks but no way would I say Sheffield is dull, grey and rundown when comparing it to Leeds and personally, I've not met anyone who's described it like that.

It was just the other day I was talking to a student studying in Shefield from Leeds ironically, she told me she felt much safer in Sheffield and preferred living here, She also said Sheffield folk were much nicer.

i thougjt sheffield would be dull grey and rundown but the centre suprised me. brammel lane area looked like a right dump.

sunderland is bigger than newcastle but its just a big town whereas newcastle is a vibrant metropolis.

its not the size but what you do with it that matters!

Leeds is like little London these days.  It's full of people who aren't from Leeds.  This has lead to it improving in some ways and not in others.  It's lost its friendly northern charm a bit but has gained massively in terms of diversity and the feel of the city.

Sheffield just seems stuck in the past and hanging on to past glories and feeling sorry for itself.

I'm from neither city but given the choice I'd go to Leeds every time.

I'd say the only thing Sheffield has over Leeds is that Meadowhall is better than the White Rose and it has the Wednesday.

Just not bothered...

Meadowhall is better than white rose but Leeds centre is better than both

I love Sheffield but in truth its light years behind

People see Leeds like Manchester

People see Sheffield like Leicester or Hull. A nothing city

We REALLY need to promote ourselves better. Will be interesting to see how decorated the city is fir TDF.

Sheffield people are by far the best. Just rough enough but not scrubbers (most)

In terms of Diversity but also as a great place to live, eat, drink and socialise. I AM from Sheffield but I'd choose Leeds everytime.

I get the best of both worlds. The much, much better city centre of Leeds, but have a Season Ticket for Wednesday and still regularly visit to experience the friendly Sheffield vibe.

That is 100% true, BUT Leeds planned it as an adjunct to the City Centre, not as a replacement for, like Meadowhall is for Sheffield.

Sheffield can be an illusion of a prosperous city, walk from the station, up Howard Street, through St Paul / Peace Gardens, top of fargate, Orchard Square, Leopold Sq - the problem is if you venture away from this route you'll see just how crap Sheffield centre is for a city of its size.

In the 90's when Leeds and Manchester were modernising themselves we bankrupted ourselves with super tram and student games
