Jamaica snub leaves JJ at the crossroads

JERMAINE Johnson faces a uncertain future on the international front as well as a crossroads in his club career.

He has missed out on selection by Jamaica for summer friendlies ahead of a World Cup qualifier despite the renaissance in his Wednesday form in the second half of the season.

The winger also has to decide whether to accept a new deal from the Owls or look elsewhere.

He will be 32 next month so his chances of an international revival may be slim.

Jamaica lost 1-0 to Panama in a home friendly in Kingston on Sunday without him, and the two nations meet again in Panama tomorrow.

The games are part of the Reggae Boyz’ build-up for a World Cup qualifier against Guatemela in Kingston on June 8.

Others in their group are the USA - who thrashed Scotland 5-1 last Saturday - and Antigua.

Johnson has not played for Jamaica for more than two years but earlier this year expressed hope of a recall. He also spoke of his wish to stay with the Owls.

His contract runs out at the end of next month, and the club have made him an offer of a new deal.

Johnson started six of the last nine games of the season and went on as a sub in the other three, with Dave Jones valuing his explosive pace - a view shared by Jones’s predecessor gary megson.

He also had a purple patch in January and February when he scored four outstanding goals in the space of seven appearances.

But he lost his place for the last two games of the campaign, to loan winger Keith Treacy, with the Burnley wide man one of many players in whom the Owls have shown an interest.

Owls midfielder Liam Palmer is in the Scotland Under-21 squad for tonight’s European qualifier in Bulgaria. Scotland are second in Group 10, one point ahead of Bugaria and one behind Holland, with three games left. Only group winners are certain to reach the finals.

He 's flipping gone as a top player for us, we will be getting better player than jj, his contract offer wont be big wages so it might be a cleaver way of getting rid just a thought.

We don't need a clever way to get rid of JJ as he's out of contract in a month

Key.... really ???

We've evolved as a club, we have a chairman and manager with much bigger ideas and we're now in a position to put them into practice...

I feel some of us are still finding it hard to let go of whats gone before.

Don't need to throw the baby out with the bathwater though.

He's played in the championship before. His pace is still rumbleing mega despite his age. A one year deal on lower wages and used as an impact sub rather than first XI player... I can't see a problem in that. I think it would be a good move.

Kivo, you carn't a played football at any decent level , if you think he is still a top player. If he is good enough for the bench , he is good enough to start an all that.

I would hold on to him with a deal that suits us, he is still a player that will worry other teams even in the Championship.

I am a little unsure as to just who some of our fans think we may be able to sign, MM isnt famous for splashing lots of cash (which is a good thing from a business point of view).

He's still a top player for us - and he's actually improved over the last couple of years.

He'll be key next season - IMO as an impact sub.

Yup.

Very one dimensional way of thinking.
