Great gesture Neil!

The "Ultras" have arranged a meeting next week with John Rutherford to discuss the "flag" and other issues such as safe segregration etc.

Hopefully we can get an agreement on what is safe and acceptable at SWFC and is also comparable with the policies applied at most other clubs....

Looking forward to even better atmospheres at Hillsborough before too long :rolleyes:

How ironic would it actually be if the Ultras got the flag back and it burnt Hillsborough down

Check out the latest developments in the "departments" section of owlstalk, where all relevant debate has been, err hidden.

The Ultra's also need small scarves around their wrist, if they do not already have them. Then they can twirl them about while bouncing, get enough and it could look rather impressive. If they get annoying we then can use said scarves to tir them up.

JR should chuck at least £50 towards this.

Pleased to report that John Rutherford has today made a donation towards a new ultras flag. Nice one John!!

The comments below are copied from my posting earlier today in the thread which was recently "hidden" in the Departments section.

A very positive meeting between the Ultras and John Rutherford this afternoon.

Key points were as follows -

  • SAG provide advice only, but it is respected advice and usually followed by the club. JR is meeting with them in July and will be raising all rulings surrounding flags with the intention of getting those rules relaxed. He will also speak to the safety reps at clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea to find out how their "flag policies" are arrived at.
  • He was misinformed over the death of the Scottish fan and apologised, neither was this the reason for the current flag ruling - this was introduced by SAG following confusion surrounding a flag day at SUFC where their policy was to physically fire test a small section of each flag by putting a match to it at the turnstile - if it didn't burn the flag was given an official stamp and allowed in in future, This will be considered at Hillsborough as will physically spraying each flag with fire retardent spray on entry.
  • He explained that in his time at the club he had been responsible for getting the netting removed from the North stand, leppings lane end. When we pointed out that netting was still in place in the NW corner and whether this was necessary he agreed it would be removed before the Swindon game.
  • He is quite relaxed over the issue of persistent standing, this despite the fact that the club have to report to the Football League after every game with numbers of persistent standers and action taken to prevent it. The FL and FLA (Football Licensing Authority) never investigate the fact that we have not taken any action!
  • Wherever possible he strives to have the stadium "policed" by our stewards rather than the police. Each police officer employed INSIDE the stadium costs the club £59 per hour for a minimum 6 hours. The only issues he has with stewarding are with some of the agency stewards who sometimes apply the rules they have been used to at other stadiums and do not apply common sense.
  • There should be a lot more home / away days next season.
  • He is a football fan ( Everton though!) and wants to work with us to improve the atmosphere at Hillsborough. Those of you calling for his head should be aware that his deputy is a blunt!!
  • He made a donation of £20 at the meeting towards the purchase of a new Ultras flag!!

Although we might not see significant changes between now and the end of the season, I am confident that now there is dialogue, and an intent to change things, we can look forward to a better atmosphere at Hillsborough next season.......
