So..........The new central defender(s)

Recommended Posts

The runners and riders.................what do we think

Keogh - Like others i thought we could do better but the closer we get, the better he looks ....possible

Flint - Ditto

Bartley - First choice for me but Clement is keen for him to stay....highly unlikely

Ayala - Was mentioned quite early on but nothing since, have a feeling Monk will want him to stay...Unlikely

Elphick - Surprised he hasnt been mentioned more, didnt have a great year but would have had him in a heartbeat 12 months ago....decent outsider

Richards - Fully fit and commited a no brainer but very unreliable..................gamble, unlikely

Dean - 2nd choice , would be great but price could be the stumbling block..........outsider

Morrison - Bid already made so we DO want him, who blinks first..........possible

Hanley - CC seems keen, but finances again a problem.............possible on loan

Jagielka - Rumours of failed medical, would have been interesting...............unlikely

Mulgrew - Versatile and useful, would be a good addition.............highly possible

Hoban - May be a cheaper loan option, well thought of..................outsider

Anymore for anymore ?

MULGREW BID REJECTED

Sheffield Wednesday have had a bid of £100,000 rising to £200,000 turned down for Blackburn defender Charlie Mulgrew, according to Sky sources.

We are taking the wee wee with that price!

If that's accurate, it's embarrassing. Bristol City have just signed Nathan Baker from Villa on a 4 year deal. He'd have been ideal - left footed too.

Considering he signed a contract extension within the last fortnight, I doubt it's a case of who blinks first...

Baker had a previous season long loan spell at Bristol, and probably jumped at the chance of returning there as 1st choice.  Even if we were in for him there's a good chance he chooses to go there ahead of us.  We can't force people to sign for us, or accept bids that we submit.  We aren't the only team who wants to sign these players.

Must be a really difficult decision choosing between Bristol & Wednesday.

Personally, I'd hope we were after better, but by the sounds of it we aren't.

Think its less about the intent (the club would have known it would be turned down) and more about the message this sends out to other clubs.

He chose Bristol over staying at Villa, and you could argue quite strongly that Villa are a more attractive proposition than us at the moment.
