Westwood, without resolving the timing issue, isnt the goalkeeper he was. But it can be resolved (but so can the flaws in the other 2 goalies as well). Dawson should consider a career change. SiJ Posted November 27, 2020 Share Posted November 27, 2020 We need a new number 1. I'm not convinced that Westwood is the keeper he once was tbh. His organisation and vocal skills are still there obviously, but he seems far more prone to a gaffe than he once was. Throw in the fact you can't actually rely on him to play, whether that's injuries, falling outs or the festive period. Has been a very good player for us, but I do genuinely think his time will be up by next summer. A bit like a few players, it's increasingly got that feel of a loveless marriage, where both parties would be best served by moving on. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If we fix the timing issue when he comes off his line, evidence of his spell in the first half of last season would suggest he is still a very good goalie. The errors were almost all timing issues coming off his line. if we can’t fix it , then the debate is which is the least damaging technical problem. Struggles for form and fitness in a game and ten minutes and the mob are baying. And I'm not even in the 'Westwood is the answer camp'. I'm in the other two aren't the answer, so let's what he can and can't still do while we've got the chance to have a look. He's being held to mythical standards whereby players can be made to sit out of training for a year and arrive back instantly in peak form and physical condition. The other two are hopeless so we absolutely should look at what Westwood has to offer between now and January. If the answer is the two games are as good as it's going to get he should be off (they all should), but it's absolutely worth checking given we're not bringing anyone in before then.
