OFFICIAL SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY PRAISE OR GRUMBLE THREAD - 2017-18

As far as I am aware Jagielka was never in City's academy. He was in Everton's(ironically) and got released and thus ended up at United. Still it's not like the blunts to let facts get in the way of a good narrative eh.

Last night's caller was spot on about our Academy and why we haven't produced more good young players like Blades.

Apart from lack of investment in past - John Stones said he'd still be on his Dad's Penistone pig farm if he'd chosen our youth set up -  Middlewoood's just not big enough to get top status.

We don't need Cat 1 status to produce players

Player development success isn't measured in the amount of hectares the training ground occupies

If a club releases a player because they don't think that player is good enough then another academy takes them on and turns them into a 1st team player then damn right the 2nd club should take the credit for it's scouting, recruitment and development of that player

Academies are multifactorial in how/why a player breaks through - the reason there are so many drop outs through the phases is because too many kids are signed to academies in the first place

Too many issues built up from a young age and usually with kids that have no more chance of getting a professional football career than i have

What we are doing isn't working - the solution from the halfwits at the FA?

Do more of it...

Exactly.

All they’ve succeeding in doing is to increase the number of cattle on the conveyor belt, with little or no support for the high numbers of those who inevitably fall off it.
