theowlsman
rather have Maxine. Wouldn't even consider it until I get a pic of her in her hot pants. Better still, wait until the new kit comes out, and model that Owlettes-stylee. Hubba hubba.

james o connor
Not quite the type of player I'm envisaging under this new regime. Three advisors, scouring the planet, and they come up with a released, has-been, lacking in goals in recent seasons, and winding down towards retirement. So we are still ignoring 10 goals in 14 games for Derby... Deffinatly lacking in goals Actually think Stevie May has more potential over the next 5 years. steelcityowlsfan
I've seen some drivel on here but Bent not good enough for us tops the lot. I agree he's out of our range though. ALF would be a good alternative
theowlsman
Younger, ambitious, strikers required. Players on the up, not on their way down. Contracts given for anticipated improvements year on year, not for reductions in performance year on year. Simples.
F. Spiksley
How do you know this? Do you know what the budget is? The Fantasy for me. I'll only ever call us this.
theowlsman
Let's not chuck huge wages away on a limited resource. If we pay big wages, it must be on up and coming players who will get better, and can be sold for profit, not a loss. Let's learn from previous mistakes. Agree with the moneyball ethos but when you want premier league football in 2 years would you pass on proven goal scorers like Bent, Murray and Le Fondre? You can always build for the future, that never changes. Will be interesting to see who our first striker signing is.

Three advisors, scouring the planet, and they come up with a released, has-been, lacking in goals in recent seasons, and winding down towards retirement. Actually think Stevie May has more potential over the next 5 years. Bent scored 12 goals in 16 games in the last few months at this level. Do you think Stevie May will ever do that at this level? Not impossible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

theowlsman
This. But that perennial question: When will we ever learn? When we're run by a sussessful businessman who understands speculating to accumulate, rather than making a minimal investment, and waiting for a profit in return for limited improvements done on a budget? Would be encouraging in terms of being a sign of intent. But I'd still argue we should have bought a younger player on the up.
gurujuan
Don't think you can deny Bent is a goalscorer, but that's all he is, which is a luxury we can't afford When Derby took him, they used him mainly off the bench, supplementing their existing strikers. When he actually played, their form fell apart, but he kept scoring of course. That's what players like him and LeFondre do, they're goalscorers, but not team players.
