Change of Approach

Recommended Posts

Now that we have been brought back to earth after our last 2 defeats, has the time now come for dave jones to change the way we play at away games and start to put more emphesis on stopping the opposing teams from playing rather than trying to attack teams? changing to a 4-5-1 away formation would be a first step.

That's what Irvine did and it doesn't work and everyone was shouting to do what we can do and not worry about them too much.

As they say the best form of defence is to attack and we have the players to attack them.

We have had years of worrying about others, now let other teams worry about us.

I know what your saying tho, maybe just a formation change will help but attacking football is the best way forward.

Bristol City,Barnsley,Peterborough those are the sort of games where attacking football can get us results but when we come to play the likes of Blackburn,Bolton,Blackpool etc then maybe a different formation maybe needed 4-1-4-1 possibly?

Excellent

Go out there looking to shut opposition teams down, nullify their threats and hope for a 1-0 win (maybe with a sneaky goal on the counter attack ?)

Genius

Make you wonder why previous managers aren't still here...

no it's not, a more balanced approach, (and in our present position, when up against the bigger sides away from home) that would be better, but most clubs fans would agree with you...

hence the number of times you hear "ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK..." in comparison to "DEFEND, DEFEND, DEFEND..." or "SHOW SOME THOUGHT AT SHUTTING THEM DOWN IN MIDFIELD, SHOW SOME THOUGHT AT" oh! isn't that "GER INTO 'EM" though???

for me, you should ideally build up your defence first, and when that end is secure then build the attack, in all the years watching wednesday we've never had a rock solid defence...

i had hoped when big jack took over (having had a rock solid defence at middlesborough) he would build one at s6...but no...

Was looking back at the goals we have conceded and it's just a case of tightening up more and working as a team.

Some of the goals conceded are from stupid defending, either someone not picking up a player or stopping the cross.

We have to be aware of whats around us and some players are not doing this.

When we attack we can be very dangerous and that shouldn't change.

Some players just have to take responsibility for mistakes, simple/basic mistakes.

irvine isn't here because he wouldn't listen or learn...

megson isn't here because he'd jumped ship on milan at leicester, another dave richards/big ron situation, and was badly trying to defend the last 15 minutes of virtually every game out...

you tell us why brian isn't here???

...but with Big Jack, Wilkinson and BFR we succeeded. So it can't just be about a 'rock solid defence' .

Each game will be different. It's about how we play and how we make the other team worry about us. If you start thinking about a rock solid defence and stopping the other team, away from home, you get stuck in the paranoia of fear.

It is irrelevant what Irvine etc did. They did not have the player pool that DJ does. In this division we are still trying to get established. Check the league table after 5 games. Leicester the preseason favourites are below us as are Wolves. Of the five teams we have played, would guess that all apart from Millwall expected to finish above us come end of season.

It is no accident that more games are won at home. First season I would urge caution away from home. There are games mainly at home where we should give ourselves chances to WIN. There are some away games and Brighton was typical where not losing was a result. It sounds as though we did not give ourselves a chance to not lose.

It's just frustrating how much home advantage comes into play, its one of those things I guess 'win your home games and pick up what you can away from home' and we still havent won in that bloody yellow kit! Whats that now? Must be like 15 games in yellow away from home we havent won for in this league.
