Prendo's boots Posted August 10, 2012 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Agree with most of you lot... definately a striker and a proven one at that (hope the imminent signing thats been touted by all and sundry.....even ME!!!...is the one) and what id call a 'proper' midfielder, hopefully a guy with bags of experience who can create....we have got the grafters in now and need craft!!!...Defensively think we're there or thereabouts and looking well solid.....Looking forward to the season I must admit !!! Looked decent in patches but on the whole I thought he was pretty poor, with the anticipation of a sloth. We were again linked with Gabbidon last week, with us and Forest apparently battling it out I wasn't impressed with him at League One level. He's a nearly striker. Not quite good enough in any one area of the game to be a specialist i.e. target man, pacey finisher etc. Just all around a bit average really. He's certainly not the finished item, but I saw enough in flashes to believe that, if he wants it enough, he can become a very good player. With Rob Jones gone, Prutton to get nil game time or be gone and Bywater likely to be benched, I think we're short of leaders and talkers. Nobody's expecting Gardner to play all the games, and that only really leaves Semedo as a leader. And still, I want someone at the back who's a talker, an organiser and prepared to set someone straight if they're not doing their job. Obviously, capability over personality - I don't want another Purse. But if we can find someone to do both jobs, worth their weight in gold. Thats 5 in total, hopefully Dave Jones will see it the same. Obviously we are looking at better than the trialists, which is good news. Ive got a funny feeling that we have a Striker and a CM lined up, it might be Koumas but something is in the pipe line for us to ditch the trialists. We got promoted because we were not only a good side, but we also had a good team spirit, plenty of good characters in the dressing room. We have lost a couple of those characters already - Jones and Lowe - and you are almost certainly right about Prutton and Bywater. Guess there is still the nucleus of that side from last season, however; this is very much DJ's squad now, so we are probably looking for new leaders on the pitch. We were never going to recreate last season squad. It needed to be changed and personality had to be sacrificed for quality. And I'm sure new personalities, given time, will emerge. I don't want to sound dumb (although I know i do), and I'm not suggesting Guy Branston, but I wouldn't mind somebody with a bit of a nasty streak at the back. Real competitor. As a team we are miles ahead of where we were in 2009/10 and with the players we currently have we should be aiming for mid table at the least. The difference in quality is pretty stark really. Has always struck me as one of those quiet centre backs who goes about his business in a calm, assured way. I don't think that will matter too much, last season we got promoted because we had determined players who were fitter than the competition, alot of this is thanks to Meggo. Nobody we've been linked with, really strikes me as a leader. Maybe he'd earmarked Norris. Had he captained other sides?
