owls-swfc
Anybody know any info on where we are due to go to for pre-season training this year - Thailand, Portugal or elsewhere?

Groundhopping Owl
Hoping for a few good non-league away trips, would be great to go to Halifax again.
modboy
if United dont go up it would be good to play them
matthefish2002
Pointless playing non league teams as you want teams who are going to test you. Unless in same league next season will be clubs like Chesterfield, Doncaster, Notts County, Scunthorpe, Bradford.
ViolaOwls
Its also about keeping injury free and some non league local sides feel the need to play like its cup final.
ramone
hmm we normally play stocksbridge/hallam/worksop & can't remember any injury issues tbf We generally play the U18's in these though dont we...? The ones i've been to we always have
ramone
mixed really, I've seen 1st team play against those 3 teams I just mentioned I stand corrected good sir
alanharper
I think it's the law that we always have to play Barnsley / Doncaster / Scunthorpe away in a pre-season friendly. Even when we were in L1 and the dingles were Championship, it was still a big game for them and they were the home team (the higher division side almost always tends to be the away team in friendlies). GY-owl.4
think Grimsby away is about due, dont we alternate between them and scuny? was at scuny last year so it wouldnt surprise me. are we not due to play Newcastle away as part of the sondico deal?? i know we normally only have 1 game at home, but with the work on the pitch this year we may not even get that! GY-owl.4
i always find it very odd/tinpot when the team in the higher league plays at home against the lower league team pretty sure newcaslte played stevenage at home in a friendly 1 year, very weird what's all this? when we did the 2 year kit deal with mike ashley, i seem to recall something said that pre season friendlies between the side will be part of the deal, and toon was at our place this pre-season, they also played oldham and other sondico sides (yoevil?).......... i may be totally wrong and made this up tho! Guest TommyTank
South Yorkshire Cup. Around mid July and over a week period.
Groundhopping Owl
first 2 friendlies should be against non league teams as it's all about fitness then a few league 1/2 teams Exactly, plus it gives you the opportunity to give the younger players a run out with some of the first teamers.
