Bumping this to canvas opinions.

Where do people think England will finish in group D?

Beat Czechs, first.

Draw, second.

Lose, third.

Some cheap flights currently available to Copenhagen for the next round should we finish second & UK visitors with 2 jabs are allowed without further checks.

We could lose and still finish second if Croatia beat Scotland, it goes on head to head before goal difference doesn't it?

I think we are playing for second place, might be a snooze fest on Tuesday.

Just reading on Sky Sports news that Southgate has been asked about Kane's place in the side for the next game and he's basically said he's certain to start.

Could be a double bluff but I doubt it, concerning that he is seemingly undroppable but clearly not 100%, he's not played well for 4 England games in a row recently.

I think we'll go for it. Friday will feel like a defeat & players will want to put it right.

You don't think they'll have watched the other games and think that they'd like to avoid the immediate prospect of France, Germany or Portugal then?

I'd like to think not but the cynic in me suggests it might play a part.

Dropping the captain would make GS look daft, especially after saying he never needs to remind Kane about his focus for England, in regard to the Spurs transfer speculation.

I don't think it would make him look daft now, I think it makes him look weak if he continues to pick him when he is clearly not 100%. That's why questions are being put to him in this respect.

I don't think it can be planned in that detail. What if we finish third & go out & someone leaked the plan?!  It's gd that decides position if points are level. GS will want a win.

The Trippier interview today shows the standing HK has in the dressing room. No way is he getting dropped.

Still our best chance of a goal, even out of form and/or energy.

Tiebreakers

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:[1]

  1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
  2. Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;
  3. Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
  4. If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams who are still level to determine their final rankings.[a] If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 10 apply;
  5. Superior goal difference in all group matches;
  6. Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
  7. Higher number of wins in all group matches;[b]
  8. If on the last round of the group stage, two teams are facing each other and each has the same number of points, as well as the same number of goals scored and conceded, and the score finishes level in their match, their ranking is determined by a penalty shoot-out. (This criterion is not used if more than two teams have the same number of points.);
  9. Lower disciplinary points total in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);
  10. Higher position in the European Qualifiers overall ranking.

With Kane on the pitch defenders are worried. Kane didn't do much v. Croatia but he made space for others by occupying defenders.

The Scots didn't care and just played their system with 5 across the box and 3 usually 4 in front. Kane went deep and those 8 or 9 just held their ground. Kane can't hurt you from 45 yards out. And it was lack of movement among those defenders killed us.

The Czechs wont be as disciplined. Kane may start but if there's no impact he can be replaced by any one of the Sancho, DCL, Rashford in the 2nd half. The pace of  those 3 will be problematic for the Czechs.

That's strange. I've googled 2 articles saying gd if points are level. Wonder if mine meant the qualifying groups and not tournament groups? I stand corrected.

This would be very interesting if Jocks beat Croatia & we lose then. Let's just bloody win!

Just to recap; where do you think we'll finish?

Look at the current standings for Group B.

Russia and Finland have the same points, Finland have the better goal difference but Russia are above them due to the head to head result.

We should win and win the group, but we should beat Scotland on any given day too.

We'll play for the draw, come second, Spain will come second in their group and Hungary scrape a 1-0 win against Germany and France beat Portugal. Last 16 England v Spain, Czechs v Hungary

As Wednesday fans we've become accustomed to that kind of pessimism haven't we!

All down to Southgate imo. Sure kane and Sterling have looked poor but no way should we only have 2 forwards.... Madness.

I think it applies to most of the players but being Leeds I will focus on Phillips.

I am tearing my hair out watching how GS asks KP to play.... Its mad.  He plays nothing like that for Leeds, it's clearly part of the plan.

Midfield looks so short on options but again I blame GS.  where are the fullbacks pushing up to offer options like they do at their respective clubs...... They are sat back as per GS instructions.

Mad imo
