But crowds were much lower generally then.

Our own attendances generally mirrored our league position:

Our bigger crowds wer always boosted by around 6k away supporters..we simply havnt the fan base anymore who want to go every week.

Are you suggesting that the united owner really brought in Wilder to achieve promotion to the Prem?

Yes, same as our owner has employed Monk, otherwise whats the point?

No.  I’m suggesting there’s a bit more to their success than luck and blind faith.

Theres never any guarantee on what will happen when you appoint a manager. Im sure its generally hoped they will improve the squad and bring in points though. Some work out better than others, this one has been great for them. Like you say, its not just luck though.

We wer only massive in the 30s and 60s..we will never see big crowds again on a regular basis...even when we we had a great team in the early 90s our crowds wer average..in fact there weren’t that many more home fans than we got last couple of years

We haven't had PL football for 21 years coming up. The crowds in the 90s were poor across the entire division with the notable exceptions of Man Utd, Liverpool and towards the middle to end of the decade Newcastle regularly selling out.

It may have been 20 years since we graced the top flight, but this article shows we are still MASSIVELY CRAP.  Generally speaking the divisions look a lot like I’d expect.

Hard times, but we’re all Wednesday.

Don't quite agree with that, your memory must be playing tricks, there were times our own fans used the away end lower, and all clubs attendances are boosted by away followings, always have been.

You are stating something that has never happened, so how do you know that the cheapest ticket would be £42 quid?

Well the cheapest potg for many games of this dismal dog turd of a season has been £33..so let’s not pretend dc Wundt cash in on the pl..42 is probly been generous to dc

Dem Blunts always harp on about their 30,000 Premier league averages, but didn't get 30,000 averages when they were up there with Wednesday in the early 90s, attendances boomed after we had gone down, all the big clubs increased their stadium capacities.

So like me then you don't know what the pricing policy will be if/when we get promoted. Thought as much

The stay away fans and we have many would come flocking back to see PL football at Hillsborough. The PL has evolved massively since we were last in it and the players that now call it home are far better than when we were last in it

I don't feel that massive anymore.

We've priced out a generation of kids that will be very hard to get back

I don't think that's true. And people complained about the prices when we reached the playoffs, but our attendances still went up. What might make a difference if we ever get to the Premier League again is what our capacity is allowed to be.

There's an old quiz question. Which club is the nearest one to the centre of Oxford to have won the FA cup?

The answer is Oxford University.

We are a well supported club and can get good attendances when doing well. But we aren't a particularly big club anymore. And if by a big club you mean a club that has realistic prospects of finishing in the top half of the premier league, it is very unlikely we will be a big club ever again. We were pretty big in the 1990s but the economics and power balance of football have changed out of all recognition.

As to United, they have in a sense been lucky. There are lots of examples of highly effective lower league managers who haven't cut it at higher level.

I thought it was £30 for away fans in the Prem...so it would have to be the same for some part of the ground for our supporters isn't that how it works?

We have always had support that would turn up for big games, twenty years in the wilderness and our attendances have stayed strong, our away following is one of the best outside the Premier League top 10, sadly I think next season may see a bit of a slump but nobody can criticise our loyal fan base after the crap we have been served. Had we got promoted in the Carlos seasons we could have turned an average of around 35,000 in the return season to the Premier League, I reckon.
