moffatowl
Theres a place in Germany called worms but I didn't know there local team had that name. People saying Notting Forest are way off the mark, for a start its not even unique and Sherwood Forest is only famous because of Robin Hood who may or may not of existed but if he did was from Sheffield. Diet of Worms. 1521 .
moffatowl
Sheffield Wednesday and Heart of Midlothian. Completely original and both excellent names. Heart of Midlothian must be the only football team to be named after a book.
parkfieldowl14
St Helens Institute of Technology had a team but they was crap! Wednesday's child full of woe .....
SallyCinnamon
We have the best name. Imagine being called Sheffield United. Boring.
darklord
Grasshopper Zurich is cool. Isn't there a non league one called the railwaymen? There's a Russian team I think called border security. Hull city. The only city team not actually named after a city. Dumbasses
Harbeymc
Abergavenny Thursday - formed 1927, played in 3rd division Welsh League, folded 2013 . Think they were inspired by our name. I thought you'd made this up but then I Googled it. Amazing :)
Yadsendew
I even named my user name after them, for every time I look in the mirror! There's a team in Finland (Lapland) called FC Santa Claus - honest. Only my second post so I'll get mi coat.
Ian
Hull city. The only city team not actually named after a city. Dumbasses Given that Hull became a City in 1897 and the football club was formed 7 years later, how do you come to that conclusion?
Concrete Owl
Ours is great but why aren't people mentioning Plymouth Argyle ?
Patient zero
Locomotiv Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade, Spartak Moscow amongst other great club names from the other side of the iron curtain, they would have been as much of a mystery to English fans in the 60's and 70's as if they had played on the moon. I think those teams were more famous in the 60's and 70's than they are now.....prior to the champions league lots of these teams would have been playing English teams in the UEFA cup.....which was just as famous a cup as the European Cup Add on to that the fact that Man United were on their way back from Red Star Belgrade when the plane crashed in Munich
