edmontonowl
Looks to me like his progress was impeded by contact from the defender. This is a foul and a penalty when in the penalty area. Stevie tried to stay on his feet, the ref may claim he played an advantage but the advantage wasn't there because Stevie was now off-balance and couldn't get to the ball in meaningful way, and the ref should have called it back to award the foul in the penalty area. Happens all the time in the centre circle
britpunk77
May did fine, It was the Sh**house of a ref that bottled it, the man in black was poor last night
jonesy87shef
It's a pen regardless of if he goes down or not. Some refs still give that as a pen and rightly so. I don't really like saying this but he should go down though as he's got a much greater chance of getting what should have been a penalty
F. Spiksley
Should've gone down? Answer is in the question for me. He didn't get floored. So didn't have a choice. Stayed on feet. Integrity?
TomtheOwl95
Well it was a foul so he shouldn't need to go down but unfortunately the referee followed the usual trend this season and was dreadful from start to finish.
DJMortimer
Even if he did go down, it's still technically not a dive because there's contact in the tackle. Surely a dive is technically where the momentum for the player going to the ground comes from himself rather than the action of an opponent, whether they touch each other or not? This has given rise to that most annoying of clichés (not to mention cop-outs) "...but there was contact". It is still perfectly possible for a player to be fouled yet still be guilty of a dive. That said, it is clear that the referee should have awarded a penalty regardless. May's position was clearly compromised by the illegal challenge and play should have been brought back once the shot was saved and he lost any advantage. Ronio
My take on it, May was right to stay on his feet, the ref was wrong not to give it.
dannyhowsonswfc
May should have gone down, maybe that mentality will come with age and experience. Btw how quick does Lavery look!? Great feet with the ball, loves a stepover. More excited about this lad every time I see him. Melo looks absolutely solid too. Top drawer.
mozzy85
I never want to see players go down and it frustrates the hell out of me and even if our players do it I go mental.
ramone
Should have been a penalty regardless - dont want to see my team diving/going down easy. Its embarrassing
Dutch McLovin
He should go down to the train station and get a train back to Scotland.
