eDDie
I notice the gay policemen and their surrogate 'son' are keeping very quiet on this issue.
Ronio
The thing is I dont know why theyve gone for football . Surely it would be better time , money and outcome wise to go around senior schools and uni's because opinions however misguided are generally formed when your young . I dont care what people are as everyone is different in their own way but like you say some people do so rather than kick homophobia out of football where it doesnt really manifest itself why not go to places where you could make more of a difference . I remember the seventies and the older lads bragging about going queer bashing . Thankfully although not perfect vile sh17 like that isnt rife now . Im not foolish enough to think that no one thinks that way any more but society as a whole without half ar5ed directives seems to have in general become far less biased towards their fellow man . I agree with what you say I just think personally going for football is the wrong audience . But saying that we all know that if a player said they were gay theyd get no end of barracking . It would need a brave player to do this but it would be better for the game if players did as after the knee jerk reaction from certain quarters of the fan base we could then move onto like most people not giving a sh17 what your preferance is . Then again at the end of the day its no ones f*****g business . well said. football is the last place for these agendas. The fact no one gives a monkeys clearly highlights the completete opposite of these PC agendas. They want everyone to give a flip about gay issues whilst the majority of us dont care, thats the core of it there. What we do give a flip about is SWFC, hence the reason why we post on a football forum about football related matters.

ReadingOwl
Some of comments in this thread are cringeworthy. It seems that some people will never move on. Furthermore, some of you seem offended because mainstream society just doesn't find your humour justifiable or funny anymore. I left the pits in 1993 and thank goodness we had better raconteurs than you lot, back then. Socialising with some of you lot, with your oh so funny 'values' would bore me to death, frankly. cross owl
The way I see it is because these days football is no longer classed as working mans theatre and there is shed loads of cash in it the powers that be have decided to use it as a vehicle for whatever whim theyve decided to adhere to . They think because fans are now from all walks of life we are the perfect recipient for whatever hand wringing bias they think exists that no one really cares about . sonofbert2
There's no place for niggers, pakis and queers at football. Also East Europeans. That's why I'm voting UKIP.
oh_weds_we_love_you
I couldn't care about anything less than someone else's sexuality, and if the FA and SWFC think they can do good things by raising awareness, then fantastic work. I honestly don't know why anyone who says they aren't bothered about people's sexuality actually has a problem with SWFC taking part in this (or the FA running it). They are bringing smoking back in pubs too. I'm quite looking forward to calling people, pakis, queers and niggers, whilst having a ***. I used to do it all the time in the Wordsworth Tavern. Pompeyowl
If this is your honest stance on racial humour then more power to you. I don't agree with you, but at least you are consistent. I would argue that both racist and homophobic jokes have the potential to offend those who they are aimed at and therefore shouldnt happen. But if itturns out they are not offended, and this campaign is brought up by others and not gay people, then I guess homophobic humour does no harm. Absolutely agree. When I say I abuse everyone I get in contact with it's usually because those people can take the banter and give it back. By the same token, I know people who, should I use such banter, would be deeply cut by my jokes. Because of this I dont involve them in my jokes and am a lot kinder to them. If it would hurt someone to make a joke about them then I wouldn't do so. It's only those who enjoy the banter that I do this with and we both know the limits to which we can go to. Pompeyowl
So if it's a complete stranger and you have absolutely no idea how they might react or feel, how do you approach it? Wait until I am sure of the boundaries. It is as simple as that. Some people I can have immense banter being vile with them knowing they will return, others from a similar background I can have banter with yet know they wont appreciate the comments I make around others. It's not a problem because I respect each and every one of them and they all know that I would never say anything to intentionally harm them. Guest PrincessWendy
The counter argument is that you would never make jokes about another fans race, so why is it acceptable to do it about their sexuality? You say there is no malice in it, and I'm sure there isn't, but most people who made racial jokes didn't mean any malice in it. This didn't stop it being unacceptable. To be honest, I don't really care that much, I'd prefer it didn't happen, but I won't lose sleep over it. But I can completely understand why the campaign exists. Who wouldn't? And why not? You just have to not be unpleasant and rude, that's all. You know, I think a lot of people should stop trying to think too hard because it's hurting their heads. Give the fool who started this thread a good whack around the ear. Bless you HRH Wendy

The Hoppy Hopper
1 question EM Owl, what is more important to you, putting forward politically correct agenda's or the survival of SWFC in the championship this season?? What a bizarre question, they are completely unrelated. I have merely complimented the club for supporting a campaign. I desperately want Wednesday to stop up I also would like to see the levels of homophobia in football reduce. Please explain how my congratulating the club on this might causes our relegation? cross owl
Levels of homophobia reduce . What from nothing apart from when brighton turn up down to nothing unless brighton turn up . Have you heard homophobic comments at hillsborough ? Im seriously asking this because maybe im lucky as I sit on the kop and apart from we can see you holding hands to brighton I hear not one word that could even be twisted to be homophobic . And I view that chant as it is an untrue generalisation and is sung with no malice in the same way as I view being called a northern monkey .feel free to tell me im wrong but thats my opinion . I just feel that football is not the place for political point scoring because if you want to erase homophobia you should be educating kids at school rather than just paying lip service to some directive . But you are right that it makes no differance whatsoever to us staying up .
