This time last year...

Recommended Posts

Top of the league, with an "easier" fixture list to come, 5 points ahead of third placed Ipswich, with a couple of games in hand.

What a difference a year makes, we both went up in the end despite us relying on a play-off miracle, but now we're 43 points behind them and 62 GD worse off.

It’s unbelievable we both came up together. They are so far ahead of us. Sell up and get out Chansiri. On another note it’s shocking we messed up automatic last season being in that position isn’t it. Again that was down to chansiri not backing the manager in January.

Ipswich played a style last season suited to the Championship, we didn't

Ipswich have had continuity, and have added quality.

We've had two managers since then, have not been backed, and have a squad unsuited to the current managers tactics.

Ipswich have had seamless progression, we're all over the place.

Really?

I'm looking at today's game and thinking he did very well to have us competing so closely with Ipswich last season.

Well who knows but I don't think he was the man to take us forward.

Maybe not.

I reckon he was the man to take us into this season, at least.

The feelgood factor, momentum and belief he'd built was something we needed to harness as we transitioned back into the Championship.

Binning all that to gamble on Muñoz has potentially relegated us.

Yes I agree with that, guess we would have been 5 or six points better off.

Darren got us back into the Championship at his second attempt. He left. He had a poor return at Udders and now he’s walking the tight rope at Port Vale. I have nothing but admiration for him as a manager trying his best.

I was hoping that he’d have been given a chance to at least give it a go this season, but it was not to be. Let’s just leave the guy in peace.

Moore gives his post-match thoughts.

Who'd have thought on that sunny Wembley day that both he and we would all be in this poo?

Unbelievable.

Ha! I'm not wasting my time listening to the Port Vale manager's post match interview!

:duntmatter:

He's made some odd career choices since leaving here, but it doesn't alter the very good job he did for our club.

True.

But it just goes to show that in this business bobbar can strike at any moment.

And we should know.

We've been snorkelling in it long enough.

Yeah, it's a crazy game at times.

Last season's promotion is very bittersweet for me, given the absolute horror show which followed.

I've not looked back at the 'Record Breakers' book I pre-ordered, as it all feels so hollow and I just keep reflecting on how all that optimism and hope was squandered by our chairman.

Perhaps if Röhl can pull off the great escape and keep us in the division we worked so hard to get into in the first place, I might feel different.
