Kopparberg
Lots of chaos in the world Seems a few footballers are unable to stop themselves/wish to post on topics like war and religion.. and other complex stuff Then clubs discipline them / fine them for doing so You know how it goes Can they be outspoken? Are they limited to speaking on certain subjects / beliefs? Do you believe in the ‘you get paid a lot so keep quiet’
Plonk
Don’t see why anyone shouldn’t be allowed to give their opinion on any subject as long as it’s legal. It’s why we have laws and why we have freedom of speech. Absolutely hate the trial by media that now exists because people have differing views. For its worth I’ve changed my opinion on a number of subjects by actually listening to opposite views to my own and respectfully debating the points raised. It’s quite enlightening to discover your not as smart as you thought you were
i used to be sc_owl
If you sign a contract that stipulates how, when, and where you are allowed to use social media, then you can't argue if you breach that contract and are penalised for it. I'd love to see what is written into contracts for top players regarding this.

Kopparberg
Talk sport covered something similar, more to do with the FA etc and having a minutes silence etc for wars and tragedy. How do they navigate that when the world is so messed up Football can’t save the world basically

Do you believe in the ‘you get paid a lot so keep quiet’ If you do or say something that could have a bad effect on your employer you stand the risk of being punished and possibly being sacked. That goes for most jobs. It's magnified for high profile jobs where the stakes are higher.
owlinexile
When you are representing an organisation you can't just say and do whatever you want. Especially if you have signed a contract agreeing not to.
scram
Nearly all high profile players will have their social media managed and vetted Players can get away with pretty much anything so a few adverse posts on SM won't be seeing them getting their P45's Clubs limit the potential damage at source

g-owls
Freedom of speech doesn’t exist as it’s only free if you are subscribing to the views of the western world and it’s mainstream media warlords. We’ve now got to the point whereby political parties are suspending members because they dare call for a ceasefire in Israel/Palestine. We’ve got to the point whereby football clubs are fined for supporters daring to wave Palestine flags, yet not long ago the very same clubs were told by the very same organisations that are now fining them that they must decorate their corner flags with flags of another country. Football and sport in general has only itself to blame by jumping on the back of every latest social and political movement. Eventually it was always going to come back and haunt them as it did with the (non) lighting up of the Wembley arch with Israel colours, but baring in mind they were all to quick to display the Ukraine ones. It was perfectly fine for Zinchenko to call for the banning of ALL Russian and Belorussian athletes from sport, even if they hadn’t lived there for years, competed in individual events or played for a football club anywhere else apart from those two countries. No one brought him to task on that, but god forbid if anyone wants to disagree with endless wars being played out across the world by little men in rich mansions using their populations as toy soldiers or human shields. Sport can be a force for good without having to bow down to every single cause. Let it’s natural ability to unite and enable people from states across the globe to prosper.
