Here's a piece of news from last week that we were chuffed to announce, with Wednesday legend Mark Smith coming on board as a club ambassador.

We're delighted to have him!

Story is here --> https://www.swlfc.co.uk/newsfeature.php?newsid=428

Quotes and interview with the man himself is below (and excuse the Leeds badge, some brand new SWFC gear is now with him, don't worry!):

We also have to say....As per league rules, players wishing to attend our open sessions must NOT be registered with any other SHWGL team.

Thanks!

Is the Ladies team affiliated with the club or does it just use it's name, club and badge?

Both. We are affiliated to the club as the official female representatives of SWFC at both junior and senior levels, and as such we use the club name, badge, kit etc.

So are you funded by the club then? Aka DC? Could he provide some funds to get the ladies team to a higher division?

We're volunteer-run and self-sufficient so we sort our own funding, SWFC is generous with their time and expertise when needed and help us out off the pitch which we're always grateful for.

The social media exposure SWFC provide is great and being able to tap into the brand is massive. Things like providing a spot in each match day programme also helps keep SWLFC in the public eye for fans. Plus the links to the main club, an example being with someone like Mark Smith coming on board as mentioned yesterday, those links are brilliant for us.

For anyone wanting to find out more about SWLFC, our Chair Dave Higgins went on the Wednesday 'Til I Die podcast last week to chat through a load of stuff, including how we're run, financed, what our link is to SWFC, what teams we have, player recruitment, plenty on women's football generally plus a whole lot more.

The episode went live this morning, so with anyone who has an hour to spare and wants to find out more about us or women's football, the link is here: https://podfollow.com/1546099630/episode/b32c1def0239297732bfe976931b95f602fdacf9/view

Some great news to end the week on, one of our youth players Evie has been chosen to carry out the match ball for the Women's Euro game between Switzerland and reigning champions Netherlands on Sunday 17 July!

It's a real feel good piece for the club, and I'm sure she'll love the occasion!

More awesome news coming out of the club as we continue finalising our senior squads for 2022/23, Tabitha Harrison-Traves turned out for the Charity Football Weekly's 7-a-side team this past weekend, doing her part to raise some money in a match against the awesome folk at

Football for Foodbanks.

If you're thinking about getting back into playing after some time away, or even fancy a kick about for the first time but don't know where to start, the Football for Foodbanks website has a match finder (with links to both a men's league and a women's league in Sheffield), so you can play whilst raising money for a good cause.

Bit of a quiet spell for us as we look to finalise our teams ahead of the new season.

We've had some content go out on social, but wanted to highlight this great piece of news from today:

When you look at the disparity in the number of male and female coaches in this country, we're immensely proud that Kel is taking another step on her coaching journey.

Rather than double post, it's also a good chance to push this one out of well. Some of our junior players were on live TV this week, talking to Sky News about the women's game and the Euros, they did amazing! Well done to the girls, it's been an incredible summer!

In the coming weeks we'll have player news and content ahead of the new season, which is only a few weeks now as we move towards September.

If you want to show your support then a like or follow on our social media channels would be huge as we look to increase our reach and impact on all three platforms:

Twitter --> https://twitter.com/ShefWedLadies

Facebook --> https://www.facebook.com/SheffWedLadies

Instagram --> https://www.instagram.com/swlfc_/

Also, if you're heading to the game at Hillsborough this weekend, we'll have a piece in the match day programme as usual so you can stay up to date that way.

Thanks all, WAWAW
