Could be some socio-economic factors, for example the cost of goalkeeper gloves could put many people off from poorer backgrounds as it's doubling the cost in addition to football boots. In general goalkeeper is a weak area for the English game, and no recent top goalkeepers mean that kids don't idolise the keeper at the moment which means less kids wanting to be the keeper. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
