darra
Looks like it might have been this lot ESSMA Summit, Munich 2015 Pitchmark recently attended the ESSMA Summit event in Munich on the 27th & 28th of January. ESSMA is a non-profit organisation working together with stadiums, leagues and corporate members to improve the standards of stadiums within European football and is supported by organisations such as UEFA, EPFL, ECA and the ICSS. Pitchmark joined ESSMA as a Corporate Member in 2014 with a view to sharing information and best practices in line marking. As Pitchmark have a wide range of customers in the majority of European countries, we offer ESSMA members a unique, unrivalled industry knowledge of current practices in multiple countries. The two day summit was attended by over 220 participants, a significant growth on last year's attendance. The seminar had speakers such as Jonathan Calderwood, Head Grounds Manager of PSG, who informed us of specific challenges faced when improving and maintaining the Parc des Princes pitch. Other attendees were from clubs and venues such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Wembley and St. Georges Park to name a few. During the Summit, we had two Technical Stadium Tours: the SGL Arena of FC Augsburg and the Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich. Product demonstrations from SGL, Campey Imants, Desso Grassmaster and Terraplas took place pitchside at the Allianz Arena. The introduction was a great insight into various pitch care products and maintenance to achieve the best quality sports pitches in the world. scram
There isn't a poor Desso pitch - they are all immaculate But the surface can only thrive oif whats underneath is able to let it thrive A lot of the big/premier/ex-premier clubs have Desso pitches and undersoil heating at their training grounds Pitches of this calibre are par for the course now for any serious club

What about the training ground pitch and its tendency to freeze in winter? Wonder what is going to be done to that- it needs investment too. Guest D.J.Nick1212
There is a point. What about the training ground pitch and its tendency to freeze in winter? Maybe if the hillsborough pitch is costing around £250k, that's what the training ground will cost also? Wonder what is going to be done to that- it needs investment too. Beholder
I don't think the 250k includes the heating system? Which is what the training pitch needs.
horny owl
I suppose a desso pitch is that good it can take training sessions as well as matches

Sham67
don't know if it's true or not but the story I heard was that it will be in Ecclesfield. The land at back of the Indian restaurant. I've heard it's the old HSBC grounds at Dore. Think Ecco would be better.
Dick_Turpin
I normally sit in North Stand. Pitch looks bad from there. Went in South yesterday. And it's really shocking - so hard to play any sort of good football on it.

Best pitches in sheffield. when they have a defeat they can be made to go running over the hills to fox house and back.

They'd be better at Ecclesfield or Grenoside or even on a brownfield site in Hillsborough.

Why does it have to be near Hillsborough. Chelsea, Arsenal & Spurs all seem to cope well enough with training grounds that are well away from their home grounds. It's about the same travel time from Dore to Hillsborough as it is from Greno or High Green. Let's put it like this, if you want to invite the best players to Wednesday and you had two locations for the training pitches..... And you wanted to sell the club. Which area would make the best impression Dore or Greno / High Green ? Dore is an obvious choice to sell the club.
simpark
Anyone know what the deal is with the current training ground. I know its on a long lease from the council but could we building housing or whatever on it to help finance a new to a new training complex? Grenoside 10 minutes, double that at rush hours. Hillsborough/Grenoside, first impressions, doddle to get to off motorway network. Dore, much less so and a pain to get to Hillsborough. Or wouldn't you take them to the stadium. So yes, Hillsborough/grenoside wins hands down.
Sonny
Why do they need to be really close together?
Guest totemowl
Why do they need to be really close together? Convenience, business between the two, first impressions. Plenty of benefits.
Sonny
The players won't really have to travel between the two though will they? Nor the coaching staff if the facilities are up to scratch. Cant see that it matters too much.

Cant see that it matters too much. But the management team? For instance, Gray will be needed at both. And do we duplicate some of the costly medical / physio equipment + facilities cos they're not conveniently at hand. I suspect the people who make these decisions will decide it matters enough.
