Guest star
http://www.thestar.c..._blow_1_3640223 has confirmed that Jermaine Johnson will miss the start of the season - and the Owls boss has blasted a leak that made the news public. The winger, who has been the team’s main attacking threat in friendlies, has cartilage damage and is ruled out of Saturday’s opener against Rochdale. A post on a fans internet forum claimed yesterday that JJ had picked up an injury and could be out for a month. Megson had not been planning to alert Rochdale that Johnson was definitely out but he has now had to admit to the “massive blow” of losing him. The Owls manager did not confirm that the absence is likely to last a month. But it would not be unusual for a cartilage problem to take that long. Megson said: “We took him off at half-time last Saturday and thought it was nothing much. “Unfortunately, a scan has shown some cartilage damage, but it’s not as bad as it could have been. “We’ve got somebody at the training ground who, either in person or via somebody else, has regularly delivered information to this website about injuries or our targets, perhaps after overhearing or reading stuff, and has got things right. “If it’s an employee, they will be dealt with and if fans do this sort of thing it does the club and the rest of the fans a disservice by alerting other teams. “The only ones who will benefit from this JJ leak are Rochdale. And it doesn’t make our job any easier, “Losing him is a massive blow. Somebody else has to come in. “We haven’t got another player like JJ but we have others who have their own strengths.”

cardiffowl06
Dear club, put your effort and time into something useful other than leaks. This is getting ridiculous. Sign a striker, do your job and get promoted. Thanks, Frustrated fans.

NorthernOwl
Quick someone start a thread saying we are definitely signing Koumas and Dyer. That should scare Rochadale as they trawl through Owlstalks looking for tips on how to beat us on Saturday.........

trev
My God, thats a bit stupid. I think the club need to concentrate on signing players and training the available mini-squad. Not chasing "leaks". We should have more than ONE dangerman in this squad anyway, any team apparently wanting promotion should not have to rely on an inconsistent/injury prone winger. 31Dec1966
I'm a GM supporter but moaning about this is futile. The internet can't be disinvented. News is going to leak and with millions of people with nothing better to do than twitter/facebook that news is going to be public knowledge in seconds. Politicians, celebrities, despots and yes, football managers have to live with it. The internet is the work of the devil.
Dark$ide
Life moves on though. Wouldn't it have been MUCH MUCH better for the club to just come out and say JJ has taken a knock in training today and its not looking good for the start of the season ? Would have stopped the speculation at a stroke. Football clubs operate in a parallell universe at times. The same as with the so called list of seven players. There isn't any point trying to hide things these days. You would be FAR FAR better off being open honest and upfront about things. Say were in for player X. Bloody say it. Then say we havn't followed this up because the selling club jacked their prices up to us. SWFC have been historically crap at communcating things to supporters. This would be a perfect use to the clubs @swfc twitter account - they could have just updated that from the training ground for example. SWFC JJ taken a knock from a tackle in a warmup - he is off to have it checked out, but not looking good. Job done rather than endless speculation for the next number of days with megson then having a barney that the news has been 'leaked' - Don't flippingtry and keep it secret in the first place. latemodelchild
Even if rochdale only found out about JJ being injured when the teamsheets were handed in, it still gives them an advantage. They would have looked at us, identified him as a threat and aimed to defend accordingly. If he isn't playing then they'll just not put the 2nd man on him and revert to normal defending. Hardly a rumbleing tactical masterstroke to defend against us.
Guest totemowl
Grow up boys. Somethings need to be kept confidential, at least for a time. And the JJ injury might have been one of them.

Obviously keep targets under wraps, then feel free to keep the fans updated if things go pear-shaped or a deal is signed. With the Internet as popular as it is these days, EVERYTHING will be leaked at some stage.
