Championship Players to refuse and NOT play when football resumes

This is one of the many problems with the EFL and why the current people ala Parry are not fit for purpose. They spend all their time sucking up to the Premier league for the scraps of their table instead of sorting out what they are there for.

What the EFL should have done.

Get a package in place to make sure no team goes bust because of Corona.

Pass an amendment to the season and any player under contract will remain under contract and at the club until the season has ended.

Make sure safety is paramount and not profit. Until there are no positive test in the league no games are played

All the above could be easily done if all 24 teams stand as one the problem is they won't and they are only bothered about one think MONEY.

It doesn’t matter what the clubs and the EFL decide, they couldn’t do with the contracts as you’ve suggested. It’s a matter of law, and even football isn’t above the law, hence the Bosman ruling.

We are currently in time that no one in their lifetime has seen. If the powers that be in the game want to change the rules they can.

The thing is the are too bothered about Money and greed to focus on the jobs needed

That's not how these things work - the EFL aren't the government.

They can change the rules of the competition, and they are doing. But they cannot change the law. Even the government could not change the law in the way you’re suggesting, as the Bosman ruling was made by the European Court of Justice.

Right so let follow the law and forget about trying to restart the season as come the 30th June or a week after we restart every team in the division will have players no longer under contract.

OR and this is a radical idea.

Every single player under contract that finish in June gets extended until the season ends. You don't need a government for this you need 24 teams in a league and their players to agree to it.

This whole thing has nothing what so every to do with a Bosman free it is about install some level of professionalism in the league that if we restart the league then teams will at least be able to fulfill the fixtures. If teams have players leaving on the 30th June, to play weaken teams or under aged players because they have no team surely then the EFL will have to fine everyone the same way as the did with Macclefield and Bolton this season.

There has to be a level of common sense used by everyone.

That wouldn't work as many players don't want to extend their contracts at all

But in order to maintain the integrity of the league you have to have player remain at their clubs until the season it over.

If not then don't bother trying to restart the season null and void this season and we start again next season.

Good luck with that idea. The EPL have already stated that if teams have players injured they will not postpone games, the teams will just have to use what other players they have. I would presume they will apply the same rules to players out of contract if they haven't accepted an extension.

Pretty sure the EFL will follow the EPL's lead in this.

So with these new contract rules the EFL have put forward. You can sign a player from the 23rd of June to play for you the following season.

So what's to stop teams doing that and saying, but now you are to refuse to play the rest of the season with your current club incase you get injured. We will cover the lose in wages for you not playing.

Will happen a lot I think.

Yes, let's follow the law. It's not optional. It's simple employment law. Any extension the clubs or the EFL attempted to impose on the players wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on.

It's not a radical idea, it's a nonsensical idea. The absolute best that can be done is that the EFL agrees that the clubs can offer an extension to the players to cover the late finish to the season. It's then up to the players to decide whether or not they want to accept that extension. That's what's already being done.

The clubs could possibly decide upon a gentlemen's agreement where they would refuse to sign anyone for next season who didn't agree an extension, but any team with a hope of promotion or at risk of relegation when the January transfer window opens would throw that agreement out of the windo, and sign whoever they thought would make a difference.

This has everything to do with Bosman. When a player's contract expires, he can leave the club. The club has no say in the matter. That is enshrined in law and there is no way around it.

The clubs and the EFL can't simply decide to keep the players against their will. The players can just refuse to turn up. They won't get paid, but if they've already decided they're leaving the clubs anyway, that won't be an issue for them.

What the point then if it is just going to be a complete farce.

Sheffield Wednesday under 18's vs Charlton under 12's - I seem to remember the EFL talking about league integrity.

I hope we don't make the play off we won't have enough players to play the game. :duntmatter:

This is why I dont think we will restart in the championship. They are trying to cram to much into to little space. We are behind the premier league in terms of training, and have playoffs to fit in aswell.

Even if we did restart I think after a few games in and 4 or 5 major players getting injured or getting covid19 and I just think clubs will refuse to carry on and say to the EFL. Do what you want with us. See you in court.

A cynic would say some clubs and perhaps even some leagues might be happy with that and just want to restart so they can get to a position where say Liverpool have the title confirmed and the top two in the Championship are really unlikely to be caught - then jack it in again......

Wouldn't be a surprise at all.

Seems strange that club have to make a decision on whether to retain and extend a players contract or let them go when they will still have 20% of the current season to play after they have made this decision.

Say we are keen to keep Fox or Forestieri but want to see how they end the season before making a firm decision, we can't do that now and if we don't commit by 23rd June, how committed will they or any of the others be after that date knowing for sure that they don't have a future here. At least before it was potentially in the balance for some (unless the rumours of them being told months ago are true).

The problem with that is, because of this virus all players in all teams are not match fit, and will not be at their best and liable to more easily sustain injuries.

So basically clubs would have to make those type of decisions on past performance.

Not match fit perhaps but other things come into play when making a decision that can be assessed over the next 20% of the season - commitment, attitude etc.

But if a player knows he is not match fit and thus more susceptible to injuries, it has a good chance of effecting his commitment, and possibly attitude as well.

The management and coaching staff will be well aware of this. If everyone is in the same boat surely it will be possible to tell who is pulling their weight as much as can be reasonably expected in the circumstances and who is not.

Yes, but that was my original point, they would have to go on past records/performances.

To a certain extent at least.

Only two thing they are bothered about European spots for next season incase UEFA say you cant enter nobody and the money that the tv companies bring in. If it wasnt for these two factors whole lot would be happily null and voided.

Like you say there is a chance it wont finish and they will be left with some decisions to make.  But they wont care less about the championship clubs not getting promoted. Having West Brom and Leeds in the Premier League or having Bournemouth and Norwich in it doesn't make a jot of difference to them.

And they wont be scared one bit about any legal challenge for the EFL or its clubs.  Bournemouth and Norwich could say it's worth 150 million to us to be in the Premier League. We are not getting relegated under these circumstances. We will use 50m of that to take on the EFL and say Leeds shouldnt take our place next season.

When it comes down to the crunch the law suits will come out. The bottom three clubs could say to the Premier League it's unfair we had depleted squads. Combined lawsuit of 450 million for the Premier League to face and they have the premier league riches the EFL clubs dont to pay the lawyers.

So any threats from the EFL about no relegation from the premier league will be laughed at by them. They will look after themselves and there own money and would much rather upset them than a current Premier League side.
