Gary Roberts

If we are interested in Roberts, you could understand why.

Treacy move would cost a fee and wages. If you're talking £500,000 fee and a 2 year contract of £6,000 p/w then that transfer's costing you £1.1m.

Whereas, Roberts won't command a fee and might demand a marginally lower wage, say £5,000 p/w, so the transfer only costs £500,000 over a two year contract.

Quite a big difference in cost there. Could the £600,000 approx be used better elsewhere? Possibly - that might be DJ's thinking Milans thinking

Enchanter, very true. Saying that, MM doesn't seem too reluctant to spend, few bids in (albeit rejected) and acceptance the wage bill is going to have to go up (Kirkland, possibly Gardner, talk of Klasnic - all will ask for decent money).

Realised after, that post suggested Roberts move would rule out one for Treacy but was more trying to make point about the respective costs.

Could well get Treacy as well. But can't really afford to pay fees for Antonio, Treacy and another winger to give us 4 for next season (assuming Mike Jones leaves).

Someone in other thread made point that, order of signings determines response from fans. Sign Roberts first and some fans will be underwhelmed. Sign him last, and add to options of Treacy, Antonio and JJ, and almost all fans would agree, on the budget we're operating, that would have been a sensible use of it.

More fool you, I bet you find Michael McIntyre funny too ;-)

Says the Huddersfield fan with 600+ posts on a Wednesday forum. Weren't you the one posting on Owlstalk at HT in a Hudds game? Get a life

Treacy is a fair bit younger though; likely to improve and increase in value. i'd fancy our chances of recouping any fee for him when we come to sell. he is a full international; Roberts isn't. i wouldn't assume that any money spent on Treacy would be lost. the next contract Roberts signs is a crucial one for the player at the age of 28; and at the end of it, his value would probably have diminished.

I've always been hugely impressed by Gary Roberts. Great delivery and scores a decent number of goals.

He'd be a very good signing on a free - it's true we need even better players as well but with the way DJ sets up we need a number of options on the wings and he could do very well for us given the chance
