" Had totally forgot about this match, have not watched non league football or a Senior cup final since following Mexborough Town in the old Yorkshire and Midland League days, Not sure what the stndard is like now, but in the days when Mexborough won or were runners up in this competition with regularity, reached the last 16 of the FA Trophy, and lost in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup to Macclesfield who went on to play Wednesday at Hillsborough in the next round, it certainly could not be called pub standard football. mattitheowl
So are we saying that this gate is priced at twice that of being able to watch the grunters get relegated. I think that tells you a little about where they are right now! Just not bothered...

Na, disappeared along with Denaby United and Rawmarsh Welfare to name just two, they used to take more away with them than many sides bring to Hillsborough these days. coopswfc76
Majority of Parkgate players play Sunday football in Rotherham & Meadowhall so thats my point that you can see them for Free on a Sunday. That said the difference between some Sunday Footballers and our lot is very minimal imo mainly fitness.

Guest Buxtonian
Don't forget that many of these teams are not professional clubs, but charities. The players often receive little or no reward for their efforts. As someone who has watched these teams, the lads are 100% committed. And don't forget two important things. The first is that these clubs are not run on nothing - they need some income to survive, And second, to play in a final at a ground like Hillsborough must be for some of them the equivalent of proffesionals playing at Wembley. We shouldn't grumble about paying since this will help clubs like this to survive. And these clubs are the breeding ground of many future excellent professionals. charliegeorge
Cough, Things must have altered since I was involved at this level then, Cough. Some players well rewarded. A game of football ruined by the ref. Parkgate played some good football but never penetrated the back four. Stocksbridge goals came 2 from Mark ward and 1 from the pacey Jack Muldoon. Parkgate did not do their homework as they would never left him 1 on 1 at the back in the second half. A few owls supporters their last night. Nice to Milan handing out the medals. He was actually quite interested in the trophy. I think its the 4th oldest football trophy in the world.
