Neilsen  -  5    Distribution was pretty good but looks a bit cumbersome and uncomfortable when attacked on the floor

Van Aken  -  4    Looks woefully short on confidence, was just starting to improve slightly when he got injured

Palmer  -    5    Usual stuff

Wow, which game were you watching. OK its Sunderland but a few early wobbles aside (caused mostly by Jos's ridicul;ous play it out from the back policy) Neilsen was excellent, Van Aken was much much more solid than we have seen him and Palmer played far better than the 'usual stuff' you state.

Sevens across the board for these three

All about opinions mate.....you have yours, i have mine.

Thought Palmer was beaten far too easily on more than one occasion, and cant recall him creating anything at all from the possession he had.

Neilsen stuck to his task, but stick by my point that he is vulnerable (to say the least) on the deck...would you be happy to see him marking Ollie Watkins on Sunday?

Van Aken made a couple of good interceptions , but overall looked very panicky in possession and far too exposed defensively.

Finally i am taking the quality of the opposition into consideration as well (they were awful).

Mick McCarthey, a man who should know a thing or two about defending said it best after the game when he commented that he Thinks Tom Lees is crucial to us as he is the only defender that played last night that would look comfortable in a back 4.

In first 20 minutes team were very nervous and were outplayed by Sunderland. The defence looked very short of confidence in particular. After we scored it gave whole team a boost and we settled into the game but Sunderland were definitely best teamin first half. They did not have a striker worthy of note on pitch if they did our defence would have had a more rigorous examination as it was they had easy time of it.

In the second half the introduction of Kirby gave the team more balance and allowed Bannan to flourish. We looked on top and was never in doubt we would win.

Positives

Matias - Scored and will have done confidence good. Best game for a long time.

Kirby - Showed we have promising defensive midfielder who does the bread and butter things in game, the type of player we normally lack.

Bannan - Showed what is capable of in second half when paired with player who complements his style.

Reach - Scored and you could see confidence grow when this happened also benefited from introduction of Kirby in second half.

Nielsen - Best game I have seen him have but was not fully tested by Sunderland team who lacked a centre forward.

Wildsmith - Only had one save to make but commanded defence well. Realised they were struggling to play out from back and took it upon himself to change tactics and from his long ball came first goal.

Debuts to Lee, Penney and Hunt for Wednesday and this will give all lads in academy confidence boost. Hunt neat passing player similar type of player to Bannan and midfield lacked balance which made it difficult for him. penney and lee made no mistakes and hard to comment upon performance.

We won and played some reasonable football in secondhalf controlling game.

Negatives

Think 3 at back is a system which is easily contered. If opposition stick 3 players up again your defenders it means they have to be comfortable to receive ball whilst beeing marked and few defenders fall into this category. This means you have to go long (which is opposite to what you intended to do) or bring other players back to work ball out of defence. If you bring one player back one of their medfielders tracks back with him, so often two come back which means you have 5 man defence and this results inlosing advantage 3 man defence was supposed to give you. It also means you start slowly or on back foot. It is not just Wednesday who fall into this trap England were easily countered this way during summer and seen numerous other teams stifled by this. Think we had same problem with previous manager where teams would push up onto our centrebacks and deep lying midfielder causing other players to fall back in order to play out of defence.

Boyd - Had poor game. Another Premier league cast off we have signed who was past sell by date.

Fletcher - Does not look like scoring, gets in correct areas then does not happen.Did work hard and often won first ball. Needs a goal.

Don't agree with your MOM award but do see exactly where you are coming from. There is a footballer in there somewhere hope things go well for him on the pitch !

Yeah he's a nice bloke, loves it here he  said and he needs regular games to get him in form he was at his last club. Hope he gets it as alongside ff with players to come back we could be an attacking force to walk into promotion.
