Blue n White Rampage
In their times with us, did Whelan look better than Lee does at the moment? Just checked the Stoke line up that beat manure today and saw whelan is still starting for them. thats a few years of regular premier league first team games. Spudvegas
Whelan is and was better than Lee. It's not impossible for Lee to reach those levels though, watch this space.

richowl
If Lee could bring a few goals to his game then he wouldn't be miles off. Lots of potential though.
Geoffrey Manboob
No, different players at different points in their careers, but lee is more rounded imo. Whelan used to just chip balls into the corners with a sand wedge of a foot. When still is too inconsistent, drifting in and out of games. lee competes for 90mins. Bluesteel
Lee is a different kind of player, Whelan drove forward more with the ball at his feet and was a bit nastier. Lee is just a very calm and assured midfielder who works really hard doing thankless tasks. I doubt he has as many goals in him as Whelan did at times
Dan™
Whelan had that knack of scoring out of nowhere in games we had no right to get anything from, so it would be nice to see Kieran getting amongst the goals too.

Indeed, I think that's THE one and only thing missing from his game ATM But I think he's more composed and savvy than Whelen ever was or will be
Loxley Owl
In our first season back in the Championship in 05-06, Whelan was terrible and got transfer listed. I think he ended up back in the team because of injuries and then became one of our best players in 06-07.

Raygun
Might be worth asking this question again at the end of the season.
Tom22709
Needs to add a few goals tbf Whelan got 6/7 goals in 06/07 I think with Lee the instructions are pretty clear, get the ball, use it to create a chance Don't think I've ever seen him hit one from range? And definitely not the type of player to dart into the box I think personally goals is an attribute we'll never see from Lee, which is fine I think he offers enough to the team without Be great to bring in an attacking, forward thinking midfielder to play at the side of him though

East Yorks Owl
Whelan was and still is a different kind of player to KL. Whelan's far more of a midfield enforcer, capable of leaving a mark on the opposition. To be fair to Whelan he had an eye for goal and he was a real 100% player for Wednesday. For me a better comparison in style of play for KL would be John Sheridan. Not saying KL is as good by the way, just that they are similar types of player. Tom22709
is that what mcphail and mccabe are supposed to be? McCabe maybe, McPhail IMO is a less fit, less everything version of KL
