Manager Dave Jones is stepping up efforts to sign a centre half, a midfield player, a striker and a goalkeeper. Some fans will have been surprised to see Taylor go on a month’s loan to Brentford after Anthony Gardner suffered a serious injury. But Jones began exploring the market for a centre half as soon as Gardner tore his Achilles tendon. Taylor’s departure means that a signing may have already been lined up, with Kamil Zayatte and Miguel Llera now the club’s only regular, fit centre halves The defence issue does not mean that the attempt to sign a striker is any less of a priority. Jones has simply been unable to get a forward in, so far. Jones is also amenable to letting young players go out on loan: midfielder Ayo Obileye played for Sflaphorpe’s reserves on Monday with a view to a loan but Iron boss Brian Laws is not pursuing his interest. Obileye had an outing as a sub for the Owls Under 21s in their 4-1 defeat yesterday at Huddersfield. The goal came from teenager Franck Betra, and keeper Arron Jameson made his comeback after injury.. Wednesday continue to be linked with Stoke keeper Jack Butland, in whom they have definitely expressed an interest. He has been on England Under 21 duty and has been attracting interest from several clubs. Martin Taylor sees the loan as a chance to get games and is keeping an open mind about what happens when his month at Brentford is up. RobbieOwler Posted September 11, 2013 Share Posted September 11, 2013 We got ourselves in this pickle last season, 93 day loans take you through until the middle of December and then you have to deal with the busy Christmas period with a threadbare squad.
