Derek Dooley Cup

Recommended Posts

The point would be to remember a legend of Sheffield football. Imagine in 50 years time, we play the pigs and win the Derek Dooley cup. It'll be another way of remembering the legend.

They've got their statue though, behind the soon to be renamed Ryder Cup 2012 Stand.

He was a Sheffield legend for sure, based on his goals to games ratio that will never be matched again on the pitch for the Wednesday and doing some office work at the Lane.

Didn't we have a Steel City cup pre-season "Friendly" with a trophy and everything in the 1990's ?
I vaguely remember Dan Pretescru having a stormer at the lane just after signing.
Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

I wouldn't be too keen to be honest.

We'd gain nothing from playing the pigs any time in the near future apart from the odd injury and I'd much rather see us testing ourselves against bigger, better opposition.

Like I said, it wouldn't be a seperate competition, just an extra incentive during league and cup matches between us.
