dunsbyowl
A couple more. This was off the back of a 1974 Yearbook
Davidioso
Great shots. I started going in 1972 but don't remember that dinky roof in the corner! Not doubting the dates, probably my failing memory!
dunsbyowl
Sorry - no just the top one is 1974 I thought that little roof was taken down when they built the West for the WC in 1966. Anyone remember when it was removed?
dumboldowl
From the bottom photo it looks as though they are preparing to put seats on the South Stand terracing. If so, when did that occur? I've been going to Hillsborough since 1960, and I couldn't remember that bit of old stand either. Rodger Wylde
I always think the north and west looked alot better before they reduced the capacity of them by removing seats to widen the aisles and painting them bright yellow!
AgileBeastt
Gutted i wasn't around to go on the kop when it was standing.
dunsbyowl
Best memory about roofless & seatless Kop - snowballing Pat Jennings and our Big Jack in 1979!
badfan
Been looking at more old pictures of the team/ground tonight online, some of them I've not seen before... here's a selection of some of the more interesting ones I found: 1890 - Team photo for the Challenge Cup: 1892 - First league season 1909 - The old old South Stand v Middlesborough. Possibly the one constructed between the one moved from Olive Grove and the current one (albeit extended) we have now. 1910 - Terrace between the South and Kop 1913 - Wednesday Football Club Training Session (love their jerseys with 'WFC'!) 1914 - Kop retaining wall collapses during FA Cup Tie v Wolves 1919 - Artist's impression of Hillsborough and Vere Road 1920 - The Wednesday Football Club (seeing this on the South just gives me goosebumps) 1921 - Players team photo infront of the Kop 1927 - I think by far the most interesting photo from the archives. A funeral goes past Leppings Lane over the bridge. 'The Wednesday FC' can clearly be seen as part of the brickwork on the old stand. 1937 - The captain of HMS Sheffield shakes hands with the players before the Sheffield Derby infront of 50,000. Really like this picture... if you squint your eyes this picture could have been taken in the past 20 years (minus the pole on the old North!) This photo maybe 80 years old but our ground has lost none of it's 'aura'. 1954 - Hillsborough greets the Queen 1965 - The Leppings Lane stand starts it's build prior to the WC in December '65. 1966 - Ready for the WC. 1967 - The Kop/Penistone Road... the old sign can be seen in the distance. 1977 - Awesome picture of Hillsborough and the surrounding area taken from the top of the floodlight. dunsbyowl
I think I read in Jason Dickinson's Hillsborough book that it was taken down 7/9 months after the World Cup but I would be happy to be corrected.

DJMortimer
Floodlights, South Stand, Nets. Gorgeous. If that photo is anything to go by, the Kop and West Stand must have swapped places at some point in the last 40 years or so.
