SYP Police Derby day advice.

Usual SYP tripe - "if you have been burgled, bummed or beaten, then ring 999" and similar useless info.

Hopefully they will do their job properly on Sunday so any crowd or public order incidents are sorted out quickly (i.e. stopping oinkers launching whiskey bottles full of wee wee onto our fans).

For this fixture there will be barriers physically preventing access to some roads during the lead up to and after the match. Whilst police appreciate this may cause some minor inconvenience, we will be actively using social media to ensure both supporters, local residents and businesses are kept up to date with any restrictions or issues during the fixture

Presuming that's to stop the pigs getting at us before/during/after the game?

What's going to happen afterwards, are we going to be let out at the same time if these barriers are in place?

Extra officers drafted in from other forces, and this new street closing tactic being used for the first time, thank god SYP dont have big away following visiting the county every week, i could envisage all police leave being cancelled in the UK to help em cope.

OFFICERS from neighbouring forces are to be drafted in to help police the Steel City Derby at the weekend.

Police chiefs have called on neighbouring forces to provide extra back up and make sure rival fans are kept apart.

The extra officers will prevent Sunday’s big game at Bramall Lane from tying up too many local officers and ensure the force can cope with policing incidents elsewhere in South Yorkshire.

Weekly leave has also been cancelled for all South Yorkshire officers in a bid to boost numbers.

Derbies between Sheffield United and Wednesday have been marred by violence in the past with rival fans clashing.

Superintendent Rachel Barber, in charge of the policing operation, said a new tactic is to be introduced for the first time this year.

Streets will be cordoned off with barriers to keep rival fans apart, with specific streets earmarked for use by Blades fans only and others for Owls fans only.

Police chiefs stress the use of barriers is not ‘kettling’ - a controversial policing technique for controlling large crowds where cordons of police officers try to keep crowds in a specific area and prevent people from leaving.

Supt Barber said: “The use of these barriers is not kettling, supporters will be free to leave the area through the exit points. It is just a method of keeping supporters apart for the safety of everybody at the match.”

The police chief said all known United and Wednesday fans serving football banning orders for hooliganism and disorder are being visited in the run up to the derby to warn them against attempting to get to the game or anywhere near Bramall Lane.

There are currently 78 banned Wednesday supporters and 42 outlawed United fans.

Supt Barber said she wanted fans to be able to watch the game safely and for the policing operation not to impact on incidents elsewhere across the city.

“There is a lot of passion surrounding the derby and for the vast majority it will be an occasion to enjoy and where friendly rivalry is to be expected but for those who think they can turn up and cause trouble - don’t,” she said.

“There will be a significant number of officers on duty, with assistance from colleagues from neighbouring forces, because the safety of everyone at the game is our priority.”

to be fair, as useless and heavy handed as SYP can be at times, its sad that these steps have to be taken because a section of both fans will be more interested in fighting than football. i hope by the time im taking any of my illegitimate children to wednesday games, ill be able to nclude yorkshire derbys without worrying about getting caught up in crowd trouble.

Blades fans go down Shoreham Street from City Centre side and Wednesday fans go down Bramall Lane only at a guess.

Feel dirty....

Supporters attending Sunday's Steel City derby are advised that the section of road immediately behind the away end at Bramall Lane will be closed prior to and after the final whistle.

Blades supporters will be able to gain access to the turnstiles numbered 1-6 on Bramall Lane to get into the GAC (South) Stand but below that point the road will closed and access will be only allowed for Sheffield Wednesday supporters with tickets for the Bramall Lane stand.

At the other end of the stand there will be barriers from just above The Cricketers public house and the same restrictions will apply. Access will be restricted the same way onto Bramall Lane from Randall Street and Harwood Street.

Supporters are advised to allow extra time to get around the ground as they will have to use Shoreham Street if they wish to get from the Cherry Street side to the John Street side or visa-versa. Supporters are strongly advised to arrive as early as possible for the game on Sunday, the turnstiles will open at 10.30am.
