Guest totemowl
not really a lack of battle.... It is a clear lack of creativity and ideas going forward. We just don't know how to score goals, or control matches. We simply do not have the players to get a hold of a match and make the opposition defend for prolonged periods... Alan Irvine has a lot to answer for To be fair, this was a problem when Brian Laws was manager. He tried to fix it with Watson and Purse at different times, but injury and poor form didn't help. It is a shared blame.
mark77
It wasnt lack of effort, there was plenty, just lack of quality on the ball. We were a million times better tonight WITHOUT the ball, sadly with it we were as bad as ive seen us......
SiJ
Never look like scoring. They actually tried tonight unlike the Posh game - but there is so little quality going forward. We never look like we will score. No creativity, no guile, no pace, and no quality at set plays.
WAWAW
Southampton never had to get out of second gear, thats the worrying thing, made our performance look half decent for the 1st half but when they needed to score they did, 2-0 was never the nightmare lead. aussieowl87
feel sorry for our front two - they look like they could become a useful combination, but had absolutely no service - even when both heffernan and madine recycled possession... the industry [not necessarily work rate] was the difference between the two sides tonight... Suzuki_San
But at least the defence for a long time looked solid, good in the air and strong. Not bad for their first game together! Agreed. Bit of an overreaction from a few...defence looked ok for a change. Mistake for the first goal, granted. But the 2nd was a lucky ricochet. lets hope we can build on it. Mike Hunt
As soon as Osbourne went off we collapsed . 1st half we did all the right things and caused them a few problems . Personally i think Southampton are the best team in this division . Ps Teale was very poor IMO .
enigmamedusa
Always the talk of lack of - Passion, desire, tempo etc. I'd prefer to see less tempo and more conposure on the ball tbh. Football isn't a fighting sport. We're sh*t, but turning up to a ballet with baseball bats won't help either. I thought we battled OK, I thought GM would have them more organised by now though. Once we had the ball though we had roger all idea what to do with it.
