Anyone got any ideas regarding where to have a shandy or two before the match? We're going on train, so guessing it's going to be somewhere in the city centre (also how far is it from the centre? It's been that long since we were there last time)

Think there is a real ale pub on Bradford St called the Anchor. Locals were friendly last time we went when both inthe Championship. About 10-15 mins walk to the ground.

The Wellington in the City Centre is supposed to be away fan friendly too but probably a taxi ride to the ground

I think the Anchor is on Roe St (?), just off Digbeth High Street, round the side of the coach station. It's a lovely old traditional real ale boozer. As you say, about 10-15 mins walk from St Andrews.

The Wellington is another real ale mecca - very small pub in the city centre, but if you like your ales it's another great choice.

Don't go to the Square Peg on Matchdays!!!

As a Brummie - Here's my advice

Most of the pubs near St. Andrew’s are not recommended for away supporters. For those arriving by train, many away fans have recommended The Wellington, on Bennetts Hill. This pub specialises in real ales, with about 15 different types. It does not serve food, but has no objections to patrons bringing their own. The Briar Rose, also on Bennetts Hill, has received favourable reviews.

En route to the ground, The Anchor, on Bradford Street (behind Digbeth bus station) is frequented by some home fans, but the welcome is reported as friendly. The Cricketers Arms is a 10-minute walk from the ground and is another pub shared by home and away fans. It is small and crowded, though there are tables outside. Otherwise, alcohol is served within the stadium.

Any suggestions on how to get back to New Street from St.Andrews without walking?

A taxi to the ground is obviously straight forward but i'm not sure i fancy the walk back again after the 2007 game.

So no walking or taxi.

How about hot air balloon? They could lower you into your seat via a step ladder and then pick you up afterwards. Any self respecting balloon company will also provide you with a pint of Courage, a new pair of pants and a pink handbag to put your purse in.
