Guest
You may have seen this post by me the other day of the mighty Sheffield Wednesday playing away at Queens Club (now home of tennis), against Corinthian Football Club, in 1899. Well today i have located much better quality versions of the two images i had found, and also two extra! So here they are, just for your eyeball viewing pleasure. Above: Langley kicks away from goal. Above: Earp clears the ball with a header. Above: Vassall tackles, Langley dribbles with the ball. Above: Massey punches clear. Following a disastrous last season at the Olive Grove and relegation to the second tier of the English game the marvellous Wednesday spent the season demolishing all comers in the Second Division, having dropped just one point in eight games when they travelled to contest a friendly game against the famous amateurs, Corinthian, at Queens Club. I hope these better quality images are of interest to some of you.

pgmetcalf
I wonder if the players in those days all had to grow mustaches to scare off the enemy, a bit like the British army in WW1

Lincs Owl
Appreciated. Might have guessed it was a London ground. Pre1950 photos of football in books are usually from Charlton Highbury spurs Chelsea etc. Rare to find photos north of Luton. Would love to see pics from olive grove. A few people guessed at London grounds because of the houses I think?
