David Hirst (did he...)

Interesting thing about this game. It is the last English top-flight game to have absolutely no footage recorded by a television camera.

ITV were supposed to have filmed the game but apparently the early kick-off caught out the cameraman and he missed it. Shame really, I'd have loved to see Hirsty in goal (t'was a couple of years before my time).

My first game still remember it well.

I loved that David Hirst / Paul Williams partnership. It was one of our best pairings up front.

Just to put a dampener on things though, I think we paid about half a million for Williams all those years ago. There's not been many occasions over the last few years when we've been able to do that. It's a measure of how far we fell. On our way back now though.

Just for the record Bronco replaced Ron Springett in goal v Blckpool many years before. No subs then but we won 1-0.

How much did he have on him going in goal.

I've actually still got a load of old match reports from the newspaper and that one is one of them. The report says one save was as good as Lev Yashin!
