Are these players promotion standard? Cant argue with Westwood, Loovens or McGugan for being excellent championship players. There is obvious question marks next to our striker options but who would complete the perfect backbone? As a sub-category, will we hang onto our best players ? Otherwise, I feel our backbone is good enough for a promotion push, just need that little extra up front. Be it from Rhodes, or another championship quality striker. Stoop Posted March 11, 2015 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Westwood, loovens, Lees, semedo and mcgughan are the only players we have who can consistently come up with the goods Helan, Maguire, Palmer, Hutchinson should be kept in and around the first team Nuhiu, May, Dielna, Mattock, lavery and Kirkland should be kept on as squad players Can't really pass comment on 3 new lads Maghoma, Buxton (due to injuries), madine, coke, Corry and McCabe should all be moved on this summer We need a right back, 3 wide players, 2 strikers and a centre half this summer Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can't bottle or buy that kind of attitude. We need some influential signings and an assurance that the managerial team will instill this mind-set through the club. Gives us another option and his all round game is sound it's just a shame he flufs his lines so often ...... The Night-Owl Posted March 11, 2015 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Westwood, our defensive side of the team, plus the likes of Lee and Maguire are good enough for a top half squad at this level. However we need around 5 or 6 quality additions at least, especially in attacking areas of the team to be a realistic promotion/play-off contender at this level. We need to sign McGugan and we need players of his quality or better to push on at this level. I'd like to see us sign McGugan plus a better version of Semedo (ideally Massimo Luongo); a pair of decent Championship level creative wingers (like Ben Marshall and James McClean for example) and a pair of quality strikers at this level or at least one experienced proven striker at this level (a Kenwyne Jones type to lead the line) alongside someone with pace. It'd be interesting to see how many he'd score if he had half a dozen chances a game, like Murphy/Jerome..etc. rather than one (that he gets absolutely crucified for if he misses!). Get the nucleus of the team sorted first and then we can upgrade our back up squad once we have the basics in place. I think we lost our way a little, following the recruitment of Westwood and Lees. Surplus to requirements: Dawson Mattock Buxton (unless Gray wants to keep him around for cover. Maybe he'll stay injury-free if he doesn't play much?) McCabe Corry Coke Maguire Maghoma I'm not sure what contracts are left, but assuming we can't sell those with time left on theirs, we'd probably keep them as squad players and bring a couple fewer in.
