andrewowl
This was on radio Sheffield this morning, He played for Wednesday; he was also a solicitor, and as stated in the article Lord Mayor of Sheffield. Just wish I had a spare couple of grand kicking about, but can see this hitting closer to the £5k mark

Just wish I had a spare couple of grand kicking about, but can see this hitting closer to the £5k mark According to wiki, he was a Liberal who disliked socialism so much, that he formed a coalition with the Tories. Any relation to Nick? I move a lot of concrete on the QVC.

Miffed
What a fantastic piece of Wednesday history. Maybe the club could put in a bid? I was thinking the exact same thing today. I know the club have other more important issues to resolve but wouldnt it be great if they could spare a couple of grand and purchase it. Having been on the stadium tour, (which I would highly recommend) the only dissapointment that I had was that there wasnt enough historic memorabilia on show. I was expecting to see a replica of the League Cup and the Play off Final Trophy at least and was very suprised not to see them. There was no trophy cabinet of any mention. We are a club steeped in history and we should be making more of it. It would be nice if we had a mini museum with these sort of artifacts on show. It would be a crime if the club didnt own it. I know its short notice but cant Wednesdayite or someone set up a fund and raise money to buy it for the club?
nevthelodgemoorowl
one for kivo .. http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk/news/Sheffield-football-hero-s-medal-fetch-163-2-000/article-3526155-detail/article.html Very good Brian though the article is inacurate. The first ever trophy was the Cromwell Cup won by Wednesday a decade before the Trophy awarded along with the Clegg medal. I find the coincidence of the medal being found in Exeter of all places strange, if Kivo has the time and resources I would suggest he researches burglaries suffered by the Cleggs. The Cleggs were an honourable family not short of a bob or two, I find it incredible that Mr Clegg would have ever left such an item to someone likely to sell on for profit. Why can't the club or wednesdayite or OT bid on stuff like this ? It should n't be scattered to the four corners of the country.

nevthelodgemoorowl
As I understand it Nick started his political career as a conservative, so he joined up with his old chums to help form a government. That was before the Labour Party and even propper unions...if interested read The Sheffield Rattenings, basis of which was to put a bomb down the cellar grate of the homes who would not join the trade associations; It was a more strong fore runner of the closed shop ! I'm very busy right now, don't talk about it do it...You'll soon have enough pledges for a bid, The Wednesday CC would be honoured to display the medal. owls maniac
I'm seriously tempted. The idea of it landing in the hands of some collector with no affinity with Wednesday is awful. The article says it expects it to go for up to 2K, how likely is this for such a rare medal?
