From Rotherham United's website - hopefully our OS will give the great man a mention too.

"Rotherham United were deeply saddened to hear of the recent death of former player Jack Shaw.

Jack was one of the greatest ever strikers to pull on a Rotherham United shirt. A prolific marksman - who once scored an incredible 46 goals in all competitions in one season, which is still a club record - he gave eight years' service to the Millers between 1945 and 1953.

It was during his record breaking goalscoring season that Jack helped the Millers to the Division Three (North) Championship in 1950-51. During that phenomenal campaign Jack also capped a memorable 7-2 FA Cup win against Darlington with five goals, and scored an amazing five hat-tricks during the course of the season. In total Jack played 279 times for the Millers, scoring 139 goals in all competitions.

He passed away at Flower Park Care Home, Denaby Main, where he is pictured below alongside members of his family this season receiving a signed shirt from Ronnie Moore.

Everyone at Rotherham United's thoughts are with the friends and family of Jack at this sad time."

Jack's Wednesday career was stop-start to say the least, but he knew where the goal was when given the number nine shirt, and 1953/54 was arguably his best season for the Owls.

That year, he scored 17 goals in 32 games, among them a goal against Sheffield United in an FA Cup 3rd round game at Hillsborough before 65,000 fans - the goal proved crucial as the Owls won the replay 3-1 at Bramall Lane. Just two weeks later the sides met again in the league and Jack scored twice as the Owls beat their rivals for the second time in ten days.

Back in the cup, Wednesday would go on to reach the semi-finals, and Jack played a big part in us getting there, scoring one of the goals in a 2-0 6th round replay win in front of 52,000 at Burnden Park.

RIP Jack, sad to see another one of the family leave us.
