Lees form has certainly dipped but he’s not as bad as people are making out . He became number one target when the half wits realised fox wasn’t that bad after all . Bizarre fan base hammering a defender who could still play a big part for us , yet pining for a past it, crocked goalkeeper who has no future here or anywhere else .

Weird isn't it. Was watching under the cosh today with Kirkland and he alluded to Westwood being a count.

I get the feeling you might have played in defence in your youth. Too many people on here expect one defender to be an all singing all dancing superhero. It is all about the unit and quite frankly the unit was a shambles under jos and lees has struggled ever since.

Lees is dependable. He will put his head where it hurts. He will always compete. He isn't messi but he doesn't need to be if he works as part of a solid unit which is supported by the midfield. If Monk has drilled the team on the tactics he wants, they're known understood and the defenders he picks will compliment each other, then Lees will go back to being a very solid championship defender. If we continue to pick disjointed teams with tactics that are clearly not well understood, well, he won't.

Individually lees is a very good defenders defender.

Sorry, but lees has been a very poor defender for a long time now. Positional sense is very poor, distribution is awful as is his decision making. He gets caught square on way too often and isn't switched on all game. He's generally lost the ability to not be bullied, so all in very poor.

Really

Yep, afraid so. Watch him the next time he plays, doesn't stop the striker from backing in to him at headers (should be standing his ground then taking 1 step back before jumping), turns his back on shots, body language is saggy shouldered and timid. Having said that, he never neshes a tackle and will attack headers strongly at corners/free kicks.

A proper contradiction

You cannot fault Tom Lees for his attitude, his commitment, his honesty and his hard work...he probably tops the list on all of these and he's proud to wear the badge.

He has his limitations and he probably knows them better than anyone. When he's left in the centre in a back three he's at his worst and it shows. He thrives with a close partner CB who can play football and doesn't flap. Venancio, Loovens, Hector...he was comfortable. He's not comfortable on his own between Iorfa and Borner as both can be naive in this system.

I think he would be great to bring on if we are leading midway through the 2nd half and go to a back 4...other than that I think he will be very exposed and let us down.
