Bougherra is a free agent having left Qatar side Lekhwiya in May and has recently led Algeria to the last 16 of the World Cup in Brazil.

Born in France, Bougherra started his career at French side Gueugnon in July 2002 and made 49 appearances, scoring once in a four years at the club.

He joined Crewe Alexandra on loan in January 2006 until the end of the season and his impressive performances led Sheffield Wednesday to pay around £300,000 for the defender.

Bougherra was a hit at Hillsborough, scoring two goals in 28 games before being sold to Charlton Athletic for £2.5m in January 2007.

The defender made 34 appearances for the Addicks but was sold to Glasgow Rangers in July 2008 for £2.5 million.
