Owls England Internationals - when was the last time?

Recommended Posts

2004 was the last time.

Chris Adamson, Guy Branston, Dean Smith, Adam Proudlock, Jon Beswetherick and Guylian Ndumbu-Nsungu were all ex or current England Internationals at trhe start of that season.

Ndumbu-Nsungu went on to collect 32 caps, He qualified for England as his father was ex Cameroon legend Roger Milla, and Guylian was the lovechild of Roger's tempestuous affair with Eastender Pat Butcher.

Never heard of Lance Key before di he ever get a game?

Poor Lad - from Wiki - Key began his professional career in April 1990 when he joined Sheffield Wednesday from non-league Histon for a fee of £10,000. He spent six years with Wednesday, but made just one appearance, as a substitute in the FA Cup at Gillingham. This followed the sending off of Kevin Pressman. Key's first touch was to pick the ball out of the net following the penalty which led to the sending off.

Guest Distraught!

I think it may be Sven that started it, but since they began picking 22 different players (11 play the first half, the other 11 play the second half) in friendlies, being called an England International lost all of its significance. Since then, players that shouldn't get anywhere near to full international status get picked. Every English born player in the Premier League and probably most of the reserves get a game at some point.

It's sad. To have an England cap used to be something special and this farcical situation has devalued things for the players that really deserve to play at the very top level.

It used to be that even one cap wonders could hold their head up in pride.

They probably do now but there is something very false about it all.

Guest Brigadier

Bottom left looks like Dean Windass.

I know he had a long career but that is ridiculous.

Was just going to post the same thing! :st2:
