frastheowl
If Irvine goes, it needs a big name to replace him. Unfortunately, looking at Mandaric's past appointments he seems to go for the same sort of managers. The manager who have been on the scene, managed quite a few clubs with a varying degree of success. I can see us getting a Dowie, Brown, Coleman etc. which imo, would be the wrong way to go (but still a better option than Irvine). Ruud Gullit is an interesting suggestion. As it someone like Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Bergkamp, Paolo Di Canio etc. At this level, players need inspiring and someone to look up to. And the fans need to get excited. Every manager has to start somewhere, but appointing a big name with incredible footballing experience and pedigree could be a very shrewd move imo. Just look at Brighton with Poyet. Those players will love every day they get the train and listen to a man with such football experience. Di Matteo was the same with MK Dons, and is now doing a brilliant job at West Brom. Maybe too old and too detached from modern football but I'd love to take that gamble
