Dave DJ
What they don't seem to get though is they say the referee's are made accountable and have all these assesers and managers etc and what? They get found out for being crap and get sent to league 2 for a weekend. That's of no benefit to the club he's caused the damage at and isn't really fair on the league 2 club he's sent to either. If that's the only punishment referees will get then where's the incentive for them? They might fancy a weekend at the seaside!

Only way it could work for the referee to be more accountable is on a bonus payment structure. For example: The base they get they always get. 50% or lower of decisions correct- no bonus and suspended with no base for 1 week 50% -60%= a 10% bonus of their base salary 60-70%= 15% bonus of their base salary 70-80%= 25% bonus of their base salary 80% + = 50% bonus of their base salary Could encourage them to do better? Just let them pass a hat round after game so folk can register their appreciation - I can just imagine Mr. Robinson sifting his way through the buttons, bandit tokens, chewing gum and the odd turd in the privacy of his dressing room..
