Charlton Athletic may miss out on automatic promotion from League One this season due to a bizarre administration error at the clubs offices earlier this month. Club secretary Chris Parkes explained the circumstances after the Addicks 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient at the Valley yesterday. “Jordan Cousins who turned 18 earlier this month had his registration with the FA for the current season mixed up with Jordan Butler who is a member of our womens team, managed by former player Paul Mortimer ” explained Mr. Parkes “ This error has been brought to our attention by the FA after Jordan (Cousins) represented the Charlton Athletic first team in a Kent Cup semi-final against Dartford during the past week. The FA have told us that he was registered on forms for the Womens League and that Jordan Butler has been registered on first team forms.”

The mistake will by FA rules result in a 5 point deduction for playing a non-registered player in a Football Association competition, as the Kent League is affiliated to the FA. Charlton will hear officially about the imposed punishment on Monday morning but expect to appeal. Queens Park Rangers won the Championship last season, under threat of points deduction and didn’t know their fate until the last game of the season, Charlton may well follow this season not knowing if they will be forced into the lottery of the play-offs due to problems over the registration of a player. Just seen this and thought it was worth a mention. Apparently its reported in the Sunday Independent.

Charlton lost 3-1 to Dartford on Tuesday in the Kent Senior Cup. Jordan Cousins played in that game. They have a player in their womens team called Butler. All this information is on their OS. Still think it's an April Fool...... But you never know.
