Is SWFC's recruitment that bad?

Recommended Posts

I think the problem we're now facing is many of the players we've signed fitted nicely into our old style of play in season 1. Hoops, Bannan, Nando, Reach and I think we wouldn't be complaining about VanAkren being a defensive liability using season 1s style.

Our problem is we're still recruiting, small light, tidy, ball playing more technical players, but Carlos has changed style and the players we've signed and a lot of the new ones just aren't the sort of players you would associate with solid, rigid, defensive football.

After season 1 if Carlos had decided this was the best cause of action to get us where we want to be from that point on SHOULD have meant recruitment of players that fitted THAT desired style. Some big Flint style no nonsense CB's, big tough diame or huddleston cm and some pace up top and out wide. This is probably the reason our recruitment is looking so poor even though many we have signed looked good players /signings on paper.

Yes recruitment has been poor since Play Off Final. The early ones you can kind of forgive as we were building from scratch - unfortunately Matias and Joao don’t seem to fit the system now. No one has come in and improved the team since Wembley. Reach is improving but was still a lot of money and Forestieri is better in that position anyway.

Abdi, Jones, Rhodes, Winnall. All cost money - don’t fit in or improve the team.

McGeady, McManaman - signed them but didn’t use them.

Fletcher - a gamble paying such high wages to an older player with some injury concerns but a good player when fit.

Van Aken - could improve like Reach but not showing enough for £4m.

Carlos says he wants pace in January - should have addressed this over a year ago.

Poor recruitment.
