If i were Gary Megson

Recommended Posts

The biggest problem we have is we have squad, Irvines squad, who have all been used to playing football at a higher level. Generally these players will have been paying the pass and move game, not favoured by the previous manager, or indeed this one When our sole attacking ambition is to get the ball up to Madine as quick as possible you need a different type of player. If Megson can fill the team with workers and defenders the size Jones, he'll be better served than trying to get players used to playing a pass and go style and expecting them to adapt. I can't for the life of me see why Irvine recruited the players he did, only then to try and play a long ball game. Megson too, has shown his limitations, he should have looked at the squad, added the two or three loanees needed to balance the squad, and had them playing football Its sheer lunacy to try and change a squad of aging footballers used to playing in a certain way into some sort of latter day Wimbledon. Far easier to go with what you have, let them play football, then if you must, change it in the summer. I'm no fan of these two managers type of football, I believe it belongs in another era, but if we have to play this way, then FFS wait until you have the tools to do it.

I was there mate, he didn't have a good game, he did OK. Always looked like an accident waiting to happen when the ball was on the ground From set plays his height meant that he reached the ball but there was no meaningful contact. Granted this was in part down to poor delivery

Joe Lewis from Peterborough and have Weaver as no.2 - young quality keeper who will probably be playing in Prem in 3-4 years (hopefully with us  )

Ian Harte from Reading - we need someone who is a dead ball specialist as we currently have Teale and Spurr taking them

Rob Jones - In permanently he had a good debut except for losing his man for their 1st make him captain

George Boyd again from Peterborough - A quality left winger who chips in with goals too him and Harte would terrorise defences

Leroy Lita - pacy little striker who knows this league and should score plenty playing off Madine

Dele Adebola - great target man with quick feet for a big man

Cant think of any more at minute we need that many new players

Your appraisal of Rob Jones is somewhat surprising, as Megson said he WAS covering his man and it was the job of another unnamed player, to mark Fonte. I haven't seen the goals as I was in London for the weekend, but I'm pretty sure more than just Megson have said it wasn't the fault of Jones.

With regards the others you name, why on earth would any of that lot ever want to play for Wednesday?

Madine was clearly at fault for the first goal

Decent list. Might not necessarily agree with names, but covers all our current deficiencies, and suggests players that’d give us much more balance and a better blend.

GK: I’d tell Weaver (if he’s contracted), O’Donnell and Jameson jersey’s there to be won, start season on equal footing, go on form, and if dips, make a change. More than enough ability between the 3.

RB: someone to play more consistently than Ostemobor and Buxton. For me, call for Simek is nostalgic but I haven’t got any better ideas.

CB: obviously need a leader. Anderson hasn’t played many games of late and can’t afford risky signings. Jones is decent short-term signing, but hope we get someone who’s assured on ground and in air.

MF: can’t argue with Osbourne. In addition, would like a version of McKenna from Forest or a younger Carsley; experience and ability to keep things ticking over.

Wings: Lua-Lua: great call but could play higher level. Need someone like that who can provide spark and a moment of magic. McGovern’s virtue, in terms of consistency, has been emphasised time and time again by erratic Teale and Sedgwick. I’d go for Bolasie for the moment of magic and Taylor from Oldham for a bit more consistency.

ATT: for me, choices are good, both what we need: bags of running and energy to stretch teams. Plus, from what we saw from Mason, bit of ingenuity. Mason’s still a bit young so I’d go for Davies and Baldock or Hoskins.

Problem is, doubt we can afford Bolasie, Taylor, Baldock and Hoskins so we’re going to have to look down the leagues for a few players. Don’t understand people who say we shouldn’t sign from lower leagues. Probably same people who then suggest we should sign Boyd and Mackail-Smith.

Reckon if we get 6/7 similar to ones listed above, then the whole squad of 18 or so will look a lot better next year.
