"Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles"

You have to build from the back. I'd rather us be a side that's hard to beat than one that has to score 3/4 to win every game. Obviously it's not as good to watch but all it would take is for us to come up against sides who can defend and we would be fooked.

Gray has got it spot on imo, brought in another quality keeper, 2 quality CB's in Lees and Loovens and is getting the best out of Mattock, Palmer and even Zayatte is looking better. Having a confident and settled back 5 gives the rest of the team confidence to push on to win games which is what's happening now

Oh really?

1993/4 : conceded 41 goals in 42 games, 5th best in Premier League and only 3 more than Manchester United who won the title.

1994/5 : conceded 47 goals in 42 games, 6th best in Premier League.

1995/6 : conceded 37 goals in 38 games, 5th best in Premier League and only 2 more than Manchester United who won the title.

1996/7 : conceded 40 goals in 38 games, 4th best in Premier League and 4 LESS than Manchester United who won the title.

(Keegan left the club in January 1997)

Does 165 goals against in 160 games really represent a side that 'let a lot of goals in' ? That's the trouble with clichés and accepted wisdom - they often paint a picture that is convenient rather than one that is factual.

That's a lot of goals for a team looking to win the title, wouldn't you agree?

4th best defence I'm sure hardly ever comes first.
