lesbarbeux
The mind plays funny tricks sometimes. Just glimpsed at a thread about which manager signed which player and couldn't believe that Howard Wilkinson signed David Hirst. So had a look at the full list of managers on Wiki and the memory lapses continued! I remember as far back as Harry Catterick and Eric Taylor, but for the life of me I don't remember Jack Marshall and Danny Williams! I'm not surprised by Pete Eustace's figures, but I didn't remember Steve Butenshaw as being so bad! Top and bottom for me is just how much sheer and utter dross we've had, interspersed only briefly with some notable exceptions. Sami
Do you not remember we had the chance to go top when we were on sky last season? He won alot of games its just when things got tough Irvine wasnt prepared. I dont agree with some of his signings but overall (except the last 3 months) of his spell at wednesday he wasnt that bad. True of course, but it's not how I remember Irvine.
alan48
Sadly I remember back to the days of Eric Taylor as well .Although an administrator rather than a manager he did o k in the 'fun ' yo-yo years . His biggest mistake was in not putting the brass behind Harry Catterick and letting him go to Everton at a time when we had a cracking side.Since then , Big Jack , Big Ron ,Howard ,even Alan Brown and Tricky Trevor have been the good uns - lets hope D J can surpass them. fredmciverslovechild
That record will include cup games....didn't we win four and lose one in the JPT and then got to the 4th round of the FA Cup under Irvine. Strip those out and the record doesn't look too good.

Strip those out and the record doesn't look too good. Precisely this. Don't forget that in Irvine's brief tenure we had cup games against several lower league opponents like Northampton and Hereford as well as the non-leaguers of Southport. Whatever the statistics show, Irvine led us to a pitiful relegation from the Championship and was well on the way to threatening a repeat showing in League One.
