Modest praised by McAuley

Sean McAuley has sung the praises of academy product Nathan Modest, who put in a sterling show for the reserves against Walsall at Hillsborough on Tuesday.

Striker Modest - who has recently broken into the first team picture - proved a thorn in the Saddlers' side all afternoon and capped an excellent performance by firing in a sweetly struck 20-yard drive that earned Wednesday a point.

McAuley said: "Nathan played really well, he was excellent throughout and a real threat. He deserved his goal and then almost scored a winner.

"It doesn't matter what calibre of defender he's up against, the strengths he has will cause anybody problems.

"He can take a lot of confidence from that performance into his next game, whether that's for the under-18s, the reserves or the first team."

McAuley was also picked out comeback man Richard Hinds. The Owls utility player stored a valuable 45 minutes of action after returning to duty ahead of schedule from the broken leg suffered at Wolves last August.

Hard to judge him yet but hopefully he will be another product of the academy. The exposure to the first team and being in amongst the players will have helped him massively. The time on the pitch against Premiership players should have really wetted his appetite. Here's hoping his improvement continues and he can be as successful as Beevers, Wood, Spurr and McAllister.
