From a nostalgia point of view a sad one as a schoolkids we would often go to the reserve games before we were old enough to travel to the aways. As Megson stated the teams were used for top class players to regain fitness as well as up and coming players on the brink of making the first team. I remember watching a young Alan Hanson playing his first ever game in a Liverpool shirt the day after his transfer from Aberdeen. But times move on and the game has changed, though I often wonder what it must be like for squad players at Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea etc who just practice week in and week out and hardly ever playing in a competitive match.
